My truck has been sitting there for two and a half months. I understand why youre not working on my vehicle, but I dont understand why you parked my truck down the road from your shop. My truck was broken into; they stole my radio and busted my window on the passenger side. Now I want to know whos going to fix the damages to my truck because that is unprofessional.
Took my truck in to see about a shifting issue. These guys could’ve sold me whatever they wanted because I make my living with this truck and need it to perform correctly. They were honest and recommended that I talk to my tuner before pulling the trigger on new parts. I appreciate the honorable service they offer as well as the friendly attitudes of all of the staff, and will be back next time something needs to be done!
I recently visited AAMCO after noticing what felt like transmission slipping in my truck during more aggressive acceleration, like when trying to pass or quickly get up to speed. Concerned, I searched for transmission repair shops and saw AAMCO—a familiar name from my childhood—which gave me some confidence in visiting them to see what was going on.When I arrived, the lot was packed, with only one available parking spot. I went inside, waited a few minutes, and was greeted by a technician who listened as I explained the issue. He took my keys, handed them to a tech, and had me fill out the usual paperwork. While I waited, he checked my truck with a code reader and came back to explain the results. He mentioned that there was an error code indicating one of the cylinders wasn’t firing, likely due to a bad spark plug. He explained how, with my 2.7L Ecoboost engine, losing a cylinder would create a noticeable loss of power, making it feel like a transmission issue. This made a lot of sense to me, and I appreciated his honesty in offering this insight. After some time, the tech came back and, unfortunately, the initial spark plug diagnosis was ruled out. The technician then explained that the issue was indeed with the transmission and recommended a full rebuild, quoting a cost of around $9,700. I decided against the repair and left.Curious, I went to O’Reilly Auto Parts, used their code reader, and received the same initial error code, confirming the misfiring cylinder. I took my truck to another shop, requested a tune-up for $410, and that fixed the issue entirely. If AAMCO can explain why the misdiagnosis happened, I’d be happy to reconsider this review. But as it stands, I was initially hopeful about their approach, only to find out later that a costly transmission rebuild wasn’t necessary.
Writing a good review for anything is harder than taking time to write a bad one. With anger, one would feel motivated to tell everyone about their problems. When you get good service you are less inclined to go out of your way to write a review because your problem has been taken care of.I am taking this time to write this review because of the treatment received by this business and its people. Consider me a very happy customer and this is the reason. My F-150 had many problems in the past. Leaking transmission, a blocked valve, a dead cylinder, and to top it all off, it was driven in to very deep water. Insurance would have waterlogged it and totaled it. I would not have gotten what my truck is actually worth and with prices today that means a lot.Daniel is the first person I met as I walked into the establishment. Expecting that I would be forced to replace my truck with another used version, I was reluctant to explain in full detail my issue. Daniel, Branson, and myself decided it would be best to replace the engine and transmission. The price they gave me for this job seemed high, but after some research on the matter, I would pay the same for a truck with 170k miles. In this case I have a rebuilt engine with 0 miles and a very, close to new, transmission. All of the staff is very respectful and had shown appreciation for my business at the same time as getting to know me as a person. You do not get this kind of personal care in many places. Because of this, if there is anything I am unable to do myself, this is the only shop I will bring my vehicles too from here on.Thank you,Daniel, Branson, and the team!!!
Be wary.My car broke down on I-20 on a Saturday (I was in the process of moving). The tow truck driver called the owner and he met us at his shop (Kudos to him for doing that). However, he told me it was the battery and it would cost over $500 to replace it. He said my car was a hybrid and it was a special hybrid battery.I felt I didnt have much choice so I paid it. Later I looked, and guess what? It was a normal battery which I could get at Autozone for $200. He charged me about $449 + labor. The next week I called about the difference, and he said it was his normal overcharge and because of warranty. Riiiiight.I would totally get if he charged me extra for coming out on a Saturday. I would completely understand that. But to lie and overcharge on a battery and use that to charge me extra? Not cool. Be careful using them.
The guys at Tyler AAMCO have been nothing but courteous and helpful to me. they have gone out of their way to help me several times now with great pricing and great service. Daniel, Brendon, Lee and keyshawn have all worked hard to see me taken care of.my transmission replacement went smooth and they went out of their way to help me with other things on my 20 year old car.
The staff was very friendly and helped me understand what was going on. My car runs so much better now! I highly recommend!
Highly recommend… anytime I called to check the status, someone was always able to give me an update, quickly. They truly take pride in their business and work. Didn’t take long to get transmission installed, once they revived it. 😊 They didn’t over-charge for their services.
My car has been in this shop since August (for the 3rd time) the story changes every day. I would have been better off to take my car to the junkyard. They have actually caused more damage and do not seem to have competent mechanics. Save yourself some grief and choose another shop
Left from another shop yesterday slightly irritated after some misinformation and runaround then got lucky on Google when I searched ‘transmission services’ and AAMCO popped up with a quick list of offered services and convenient online scheduling option. Made an appt within the next 30 mins and received a call within 5 to confirm it. I was half afraid I’d be told to reschedule but was actually welcomed in and felt like a priority the minute I got there. Everyone from reception and office, to technicians going about business, were extremely friendly, communicative and professional. They kept me apprised of what they found when evaluating my problem and later explained the solution and costs before any work was started. The price was very fair and comparable to other quotes I received (online without inspection) for the initial service I requested. My service was done quickly, but I was asked to come back next day, as they had a certain technician they wanted to look at the finishing touches. So instead of them saying, “Meh, it’s good enough”, while I was there, instead they actually informed me its best to come back and I really appreciated that. I’m impressed with the combined knowledge and skill set they’ve brought together on their team. In my short waiting time I overheard how the owner and manager are putting the effort in and going above and beyond for their team, as well as customers. It’s so refreshing to see a business that values the people on both sides. In the end, the problem with my car was due to neglecting a repair that I assumed was trivial. The wiper fluid hose had disconnected and was leaking into the battery and fuse box causing electrical and transmission issues. And despite wanting to smack MYSELF, at no time did anyone make me feel dumb bc I had never connected the two problems, or the damage it could cause. (That may partly be bc I’m a Navy veteran and they know Navy is the best and brightest 🤣) All around GREAT experience with the new ownership, I fully trust in them as good people and a great business!!
Just came in for minor issue. AAMCO would definitely get 5+ 🎖review if I could! Appt was at 10. Was done before 11. Friendly, and courteous. Fast service that got me in, and out so I could go on about my day! Definitely would recommend to anyone needing work on your vehicle in the Tyler and surrounding area!
Great experience at AAMCO in Tyler. Fast and professional. Recommend to everyone. Great price too.
Ive had such an incredible experience with Aamco - I wont go anywhere else! My cars transmission broke down & Bill & Trevor & Brandon found a transmission with a 250K mile warranty and housed my car for free for over a month while we waited for the part. Bill even drove me to my house! These guys will treat you with honesty and kindness and love the Lord. It was a pleasure doing business with them!
I paid $10,000 to rebuild my transmission a month later it did not work they clean the Cadillac converters burn the transmission up and melted my oil pan the oil pan is not melted theres nothing wrong with the Cadillac converters I just use that as excuse not to fix my transmission would not do business with them ever again
I went to Aamco to get my transmission fluid changed in my 2015 Honda. The customer service is phenomenal! I am very satisfied with the service. They worked with me every step of the way. I could not leave my car there and they fit me into their busy schedule so I could just wait. It took an hour and I was on my way. Definitely recommend!
Really good shop. There prices are affordable the employees are really on top of there game. Definitely will be going back.
I called AAMCO transmission of Tyler and asked if they would install a transmission that I purchased for my 2006 Mercedes. They said they could do it and quoted a reasonable price for the work. It took them one year to work on my car, which is crazy. Then they installed the transmission incorrectly and could not do the coding for Mercedes, so the car would not start or run. I had to have my car towed to Mercedes of Tyler to redo the work. My car also came back incredibly dirty with black grease marks on my newly installed headliner, drivers side door, and sun visor. There is also a dent in the front left exterior quarter panel that definitely was not there when the car was delivered to AAMCO. I took pictures inside and out before I had my car towed to AAMCO of Tyler, so I can prove this beyond a doubt. They are unwilling to admit fault and repair the damages. Furthermore they are unwilling to return any portion of the expense for the incorrectly installed transmission. Worst shop I have ever dealt with! I do NOT recommend this shop to anyone. They over promised their abilities and do not know what they are doing. Their service is horrible! Dont trust your car to this shop like I did!
These guys were awesome! My daughter was having a problem with her car that has over 125K miles. Explained in detail what needed to happen and what the best option to move forward. I recommend this company any day of the week.
It went over my expectations and was ready before I expected. Drives great and we were asked to bring car back in a few weeks so they could check and make sure was running right. Would recommend them for sure.
Great service! They explained what was wrong with my Toyota Highlander and why it had happened. Very thorough! The new owners are great!
Made an appointment & got right in & fixed it got a great courtesy ride home by a great young man & called me & picked me up when they got done ! Used these people before & they never let me down
The annual checks with a lifetime warranty transmission repair is a great investment. I have been having my Ford Mustang for 20 years and plan having it for 20+ years more.
Rebuilt transmission, let my ex husband drive it home, replace the harmonic balancer, drive it back to have work guaranteed! Had to get it towed there a 2nd time! Now they are not honoring the guarantee. And he had already been messed over by a local transmission shop! He could have bought another truck with all the money hes spent on the transmission alone. Never use Aamco for transmission rebuild unless every other part is perfect. Theyll use any excuse to take your money. Would have given them 0 stars 🤬
I went there a little while back and I dropped off my car for the 2nd time to get the transmission fixed since they couldnt get it right the first time. It took 1 MONTH to get my car back and when I got it back the battery was dead and i had to jump my car off to get a new battery. I know I am never going to do business with this company ever again.I contacted the man who said he wanted to fix the issue but he never responded to my email so I guess he doesnt really want to help.
Jeff and Bill are some of the most talented, knowledgeable, and understanding mechanics I’ve ever met! They provide high quality service, they’ll actually take the time to educate you to better understand your vehicle and its needs. They’ve repaired my shocks and struts, engine leaks, and the spark plugs plus valve cover gaskets. They were even able to let me know that I had the wrong girl tires on my car!!! (No thanks to Discount Tire on the north end of broadway near pep boys). I ALWAYS take my car here and will continue to do so even when I get a new car. They’re honest, hardworking guys, and I am so grateful for their flexibility and help they’ve given me. Need a trustworthy mechanic? You HAVE to bring your car here!
Ive taken my 2007 F150 here multiple times and Ive always had a great experience. They always work hard to diagnose the problems and get them fixed promptly. I havent had any problems with reliability with anything that Bill or his team have fixed like some ratings on here. Ive had nothing but excellent experiences. Ive had two cars taken there mine and my daughters and plan on taking my commuter car there also
They came and got my car for me. They rebuilt my GMC Acadia transmission and replaced the computer for a more than fair price. The car is running amazing. They had my car ready in the window of time they told me. I was very nervous having my transmission rebuilt but it has been a great experience. Plus, I have a 36,000 mile warranty. They also offer financing. Great all around.
These guys are fair and honest and stand behind their work!! We have had 3 transmissions rebuilt by AAMCO. 2 no issues what-so-ever. And when there was a hiccup with the third, they honored the Warranty no questions asked. Could not be more pleased with their service! Highly recommend!
I had my transmission re-built for a Honda Odyssey I already got ripped off on. Well the work I had done was 2 years ago and guess where my vehicle is now, another AAMCO. When I called to find out about any warranty, the guy told me you had one year and hung up. I need my transmission re-built yet again and it is going to be another $2-3,000.00 and no one is willing to work with me on it since I just had it in and serviced at this location. I was initially happy with my repair, but it isn’t unreasonable to expect your well maintained vehicle to keep running with a re-built 2 ½ years later.
I took my Equinox to AAMCO to have the transmission checked. It ended up needing to be rebuilt. The guys there were amazing! They had it fixed within the week. Not only that, I took it back today just for them to check on it (per their request). They gave me the ok. I would definitely recommend this company!
We took our Jeep on a Thursday, left it, we were told it would be looked at the next morning. Called on Monday, we were told that they had driven the vehicle & someone was working on it at that moment and would call us back with a diagnosis. No one called...we happened to be in town the next day, we drove by to see if there was any new news on it...our Jeep was parked down the road & across the street UNLOCKED...and hadn’t been driven 1 mile since we left it. It obviously had been sitting there unlocked for 5 days. Needless to say, we picked it up & took it elsewhere. All they had to do was be honest & say they hadn’t looked at it & at least locked the vehicle while sitting on the side of a Main Street for 5 days!
I called several shops in the the TYLER area and Bill gave me the lowest cost with same or better warranty than any other shops. It only took 2 days and it shifts better than it ever has. Bill may sound a little rough on the phone but a great guy to work with.
I had a transmission for a 2001 Chevy Metro replaced here also about 2 1/2 years ago. I wasnt very happy with the results at the time. First, they kept it for a month because apparently they had ordered the wrong transmission, but $1800 later I was just happy to have my car back. About 6 months ago I also had the engine replaced and while it was out I had an opportunity to have a look at the transmission. The mechanic called my attention to the fact that they had used a small wood screw because they had stripped out one of the screws in my fly wheel. Now Im having transmission trouble again. Youd think that with a national chain you might pay more, but at least get quality. Unfortunately, with this particular location that wasnt the case. I will never return.
A-A *meep* *meep* MCO ( I remember the commercials ) did a great job on the transmission I brought in for a rebuild. I saw brand new sensors and electrical plugs, a painted casing and new seals as far as I could see on the outside. They plugged off line openings to prevent pollution of the interiour plumbing. I look forward to getting it back into my daughters truck but that may be a few months. Will update the review once its going back down the road. :)
Having your car break down away from home is never fun. And my daughter experienced just that, and calls dear old dad in a panic, Where do I take it? What do I tell them? So, I call a friend who lives in Tyler for a recommendation of a reliable and reasonable mechanic and he says, Bill & Jeff at AAMCO.I had never done business with AAMCO in my 54 years, so I was surprised by the recommendation. But I neednt have been as these guys are great! They traced down 3 issues, called for permission to proceed, got the parts in and on and had my daughter back on the road in a timely way. They even checked with me on one of the parts that looked relatively new to see when and where i had purchased it, and then they called to seek a credit for the part and got that applied to the new part I needed. Who does that? So far above and beyond!Additionally, when my daughter went to pick up the car, she texted to tell me how nice and respectful these guys were to her and how she is overcoming her fear of a breakdown away from home bc of the way they treated her. Important words for a dad to hear!Way to go, Jeff & Bill! Thanks for taking good care of customers and for good business practices! Yall are our shop of choice in Tyler, TX!
Our car broke down in the Tyler area so took it to this shop. Big mistake. Quoted repairs at 2-3 Xs that of every other shop we contacted. Decided to take the car to another shop. They charged us 400.00 to diagnos the problem (fully expected to pay for that, but 400.00??!!) The icing on this cake was when we found out they broke the axle on the car when they were removing the transmission. Offered 70.00 to cover that repair. The part alone to fix the axle is over 70.00!!! Horrible customer service. Would NOT recommend this shop! Ever!
I had some check engine codes on my van, and I brought it over there and they test drove it and checked it over and gave me an assessment of potential problems and current condition. They cleared the codes and didnt charge me anything. I really appreciate the service.
Bill and his team at AMCO are amazing. When other mechanics told me one thing, they were honest and it cost me less than half of what the other place would have charged. I will never go to another shop again. Thank you AmcoThe Grateful Missionary
Do not take your vehicle here they will rip you off tell you this is wrong when its not make you change the transmission when there was nothing wrong with it. I had this done one of my vehicles I had a co-worker take his vehicle there and he ended up going back spending $2,000 ended up taking it to another mechanic and all it was was a relay for the fuel pump but charge them for changing a transmission and axle they are scammers
This area and shop in particular is a high crime area. Check with the Tyler Police Dept records before taking your vehicle to them and see the statistics on reports for break ins, and theft. I took my car there for repairs and was the victim of theft and vandalism on the property. No fence, no cameras, and the owner Bill Bell totally denied responsibility of the incident. Former employees of the establishment acknowledge also having gasoline stifined out of their vehicles, and missing property (Police Records).
I just had my transmission re-built on my Honda Odyssey 2000. Also, they replaced water pump, timing built… Yesterday picked up and had to take it back because of overheating. They called and it’s ready. I hope this is end of it. We’ll see.
Would do zero stars if I could had my transmission done twice now, and now for the 3rd time it went out. first time it went out like 5 months after warranty was over. took it back got a small discount with a 1yr warranty.now that 1 year is up by a month or two and again the transmission is out again.. DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE.
Took my car last week had it towed in went by to check on it first of all the guy was sleep when i showed up to just check on my car . They hvnt even looked at it at 3:30 pm had it there at 9am after talking to the guy said they took a late lunch an would call me when they look at it an give me a call . Got the call around 5 said my Transmission was BURNED UP WOULD COST TO REPAIR 4500 OR MORE!!! MY HUSBAND SAID OH NO .... GOT A SECOND OPINION TOWED IT TO DUNNS TRANSMISSION THEY SERVED MY BENZ CLS550 AN ITS RUNNING GREAT 450$ ALWAYS GET A SECOND OPINION IT PAYS! NICE PEOPLE POOR SERVICE! WOULDNT RECCOMEND!
We were having problems with our car (what we thought was the transmission) and they checked it for us (transmission not the problem) the guy that helps us was super friendly and told us where to go to get it fixed!! Love it!
Great place! They fix all your car problems from brakes to AC! Very reliable and they go out of their way to get the job done the way you like it!
They are actually helpful and nice people out there make sure to check them out
Very friendly and great customer service. Very helpful and good prices I would recommend them to anyone that needs transmission work done.
Seems no one knew anything about Subaru transmissions. They wont work on them but wouldnt even put it on a hoist to tell me where the leak was actually coming from.
Customer service was cold...first let me apologize because the review posted was NOT meant for your company AAMCO...the service I received at your facility was MARVELOUS!!! The young man at the front desk was very kind and helpful... I will definitely recommend you to anyone needing your services... Again I apologize for the mix-up...
Great guys... Super informative... Bill is a great guy AND I would recommend these folks for all you car needs.. If you use FIRESTONE..QUIT ! THEY ARE RIP OFFS AND DONT DO THEIR JOB CORRECTLY! TAKE YOUR CAR TO AAMCO
Took forever to get my truck fixed. I kept taking it over there because every time I took it and they returned it back to me saying it was fixed, i still had same exact problem. After going back and forth for more than 4months, they finally fixed it right. NEVER using them again.
Ive taken several of my cars there over the years and have been pleased with the service and the price.
So I told this place that I was moving soon when I took my car in, and they told me they would get my car up on the lift soon, but it’s been in their shop for 3 weeks and I’m still waiting on it to be put up on the lift, they haven’t even started to work on my car when they said they’d get it done today, and it’s not even been started on, don’t take your car here
Exceptional customer service. Really happy with the work that was done to my vehicle. I highly recommend this shop to anyone.
I had a great experience and would recommend anyone to Bill and his crew. Fast service and great pricing.
