Because of my military background, I was in a new city with no family, no dad to call when something went wrong. Rubens auto repair became that savior when it came to my car, and gave me that piece of mind. The best way to describe this place is a group of military fathers that retired and opened a mechanic shop together to work on something they’re passionate in. Any and all of my friends have heard me rave about this place, and I always carried their card to point my friends in the right direction when they had car issues. I now live halfway across the country and I will add a photo of me still carrying their card.My first experience with Rubens was in early 2021, when my 97 Ford had a misfire in one of the cylinders. Being a young woman with very little knowledge of cars, I called to receive many quotes from different mechanics in the area. Something that stuck out with me on that particular phone call is they don’t stack labor, and strive to find the best parts to ensure the problem they work on is solved and never happens again to the best of their ability. Over the years I fully believe the only reason my antique of a car was able to go on long road trips and essentially last as long as it did was Ruben’s. When I bought my Toyota last year the first thing I did was take it to Ruben’s to get a full overview on every aspect of the car, I trust their judgment and their opinion wholeheartedly.Over the years they excel not in just repairing the car, but teaching me bits and pieces about my car. They explained when brake pads need to be replaced according to mm thickness, how to change my serpentine belt on my own, and when a unfamiliar code came up on my Toyota they personally called a dealership and told me in full transparency that their personal programmer would cost me more money, and it was in their opinion I should reach out to the dealership technicians and gave me a rough estimate on what it should cost, and to not pay a penny more.The staff at Rubens auto repair aren’t here to rip you off, or give you the run around. They work there to do what they like to do, which is to fix cars, talk to people, and maybe get a break from their wives too (no one’s told me that of course). Don’t discount this shop, because I truly think Rubens gave me peace of mind.

Went to this shop for the first time in September and they handled everything with so much care and consideration. Went again today for a brake light change and that took no time at all. To all my Veterans I had a horrible experience here. My opinion not trust worthy I had issues with my A/C they charged it said there was no leak 4 days later it leaked out they checked it again and said I had a leak on the condenser I was charged with them pressure testing the first time and checking for a leak about 230 dollars. When I took it back they wanted to charge close to 1100 for the condenser and they said oh we won’t recharge you again for the Freon. What didn’t make sense to me is they could have pumped the AC with nitrogen and dye and ran the car keep the car more then a day run it and you will find the leak. Instead they just charged my car back with Freon and the dye knowing it’s going to leak and make you come back it’s being lazy. When I talked to them because I was frustrated the employee laughed at me over the phone just not trustworthy place. My opinion please Veterans be careful and think twice taking your car here waste of time and money in my opinion. Oh and I did find a trust worthy mechanic Reyna’s express lube does engines, trans and AC and almost half the price this place wanted to charge me.

Crazy pricing, $7000 for a used 4 cylinder engine. Was told $60 to diagnostic test, then when paying they said $160 for diagnostic test. A rip off mechanic shop stay away. Save your money go somewhere else.

I went in for a diagnostic test on my truck and paid 50 dollars which was reasonable. They couldn’t find an issue and claimed to have cleaned my air flow sensor which was gonna be 76 dollars! No one told me about them doing that service and the price because I would have declined. Just wanted a diagnostic test. The owner was nice and brought the price down. But when I got home to check what was done they left a hose completely disconnected which was very unprofessional work. I told them I did not want the spark plugs done on my truck then they drove it around. Bottom line I caught them trying to scam me out of 76 dollars. Check your receipts and your vehicle after they’re done.

I wish I could give more than 5 stars. Rubens Auto Repair is the best, they did way more than Ford has ever done and are very fair on prices. Everyone is friendly, mechanics are extremely knowledgeable and did their due diligence. The manager even stepped in and took a look at my car as well. Victor helped me through the entire process and was very good at keeping me up to date on exactly what was happening with great detail and I came and picked up my car the next day from when I dropped it off. This is the only mechanic shop I will be taking my car to from now on. I recommend this business to anyone kooking for an honest and capable mechanic shop that has great customer service.

I had to go to Ruben’s today for a diagnostic on an issue I was having with a vehicle I purchased from DriveTime. Dana helped me immediately! He not only read the fault code but he quickly assessed an easy fix to try before making a very costly repair. He navigated the entire warranty process and also dealt with the dealership on my behalf. The issue was resolved and I felt as if the staff of Rubens truly cared, which alleviated so much of my anxiety and stress! Lonnie came out and introduced himself also. Everyone was so polite, respectful, professional, and helpful! Ruben’s was a total answered prayer!!!!

My wife and I have been using Ruben for over 20 years and have had no reason to go anywhere else for auto service. From minor and major repairs. I was disappointed with the way this major repair was handled. When I made on line appointment I requested technician Joseph Gonzalez. He has worked on our 2004 expedition and knows the vehicle and us well.we really trust and love his work. The email responce said we can make it happen and to my surprise when I got the service estimate there was a different technician servicing my vehicle. I called and requested Joseph again and was told that Joseph might not work on it because he was busy. I told him I would wait until Joseph was available. This would never had happened with the true Rubens Auto repair, the family feel is no longer there. I know things in life change and mabe I dont do good with change,but that is not a wat to establish trust. We had $3,700.00 of repairs and my vehicle is running good.

I had a great experience at this repair shop! I brought in my sons 2010 Hondai Accent after having problems  getting it fixed with multiple mechanics. I spoke to Victor and Lonnie who gave me updates on the progress of my sons vehicle and informed me of what the real problems were to get it running again. I was happy to finally find a mechanic I could trust!

Going back to the 7000 dollar engine. Your guy answering the phone did mention DIAGNOSTIC TEST $60 dollars, not a battery test or whatever you said. Also, the $7000 dollar 4 cylinder engine was a used 85000 mile engine not a 32000 mile engine. Whatever never going back, shade tree mechanics are probably better.

I have taken it to other mechanics and they couldnt figure it out. The mechanic at Rubens put it on a machine and found the problem. Victor kept me updated on what was going on. When I lived in San Antonio from 2006-2017, Rubens took care of all my car repair issues quickly, accurately, and for a fair price. I then moved out of state, was back in San antonio for the week starting Monday, Oct.2, 2023. My van developed a noise when moving, I dropped it off at Rubens on Thursday morning, they gave me a ride back to my hotel that was a long way from the shop- they not only removed the screw that was in one tire and repaired it, they also did a complete travel check, and replaced my worn wiper blades, all in one day, for a very reasonable price!!! My van made the 1,400 mile trip back to Ohio, it performed flawlessly. Many thanks to the team at Rubens for taking care of my van!!! It was great to see some of the same staff I knew from 2017!!

I seldom do reviews and I am not easy to please. Exception being... I have been a customer of Rubens for 20 years. I will not use another mechanic. Always excellent customer service, always excellent pricing, always honest about required repairs. Work quality has always been top notch. Ive brought through older models, newer models, labor intense, easy fixes, you name it and each time Ive walked away satisfied and impressed. I recommend Rubens at every opportunity presented.

I don’t think I have ever been to an auto mechanic that I really completely trusted… Until now. Ruben (owner), Dana (service advisor), and Lonnie (GM). have completely rehabilitated my previous opinion that auto mechanics were not ever to be trusted. These guys act with honesty and integrity. And these are virtues that are difficult to find in the mechanic industry. Because I drive an old 2007, Dodge ram 1500, there are frequently things that need to be worked on. The team at Rubens typically have prices that are equivalent and often below, what other mechanics have quoted me, and they accomplish the repairs in a timely fashion. I have found that they performed the work that needs to be done, yet have never suggested repairs that are unnecessary. Additionally, when repairs do not need to be done they honestly tell you that, rather than suggesting to you that you go ahead and get the work done anyway. I drive all the way from the opposite side of town to have them work on my truck. If you’re looking for somebody that you can trust, then this is the place to go.

Rubens was recommended by a friend so I called around 9:30 to see if I could get my spark plugs changed today. Dana asked a few questions and recommended bringing in the afternoon. It took about an hour and cost reasonable. Efficient, friendly, and affordable. Will definitely return instead of to dealer.

My car could only do 60 to 70 mph top speed. They tell me its the throttle body. I didnt trust them so I had to diagnose it myself. You would think they would start with the most basic fixes like plugs wires and a fuel filter. It ended up being the fuel filter. I wasted money on diagnostics with their guessing games. I was smart enough not to trust them and waste money on changing the throttle.not happy. Out 285 bucks.

DISAPPOINTING !!!!!!!!!!!I recently had a disappointing experience at an auto repair shop. I have taken my car in four to five times over the course of two months due to air conditioner issues and twice for a grinding noise from the passenger side. However, the problems remain and I have spent close to $4000 with no resolution.During each visit, the mechanics provided a different diagnosis for the air conditioner problem, ranging from low freon to a faulty fan and even a leak behind the dash. On my last visit, I spent $1400 on repairing a supposed leak, but my air conditioner is STILL NOT WORKING. On my next visit, they changed some sensors and made other repairs, but two weeks later, I had to return to the shop for the same issue. This time, I was told it was a condenser issue.In addition, the mechanics charged me $2000 for addressing the grinding noise from the passenger side, claiming it was due to the strut mount and other parts. However, the noise persisted, and they now claim it is a transmission issue. During my recent visit, when I asked about it, they blamed me for not returning the car the next day.Its evident that either the mechanics lack expertise or are more interested in making money than fixing the actual problems. They seem to push for unnecessary repairs while ignoring the main issues, or they dont even have the courtesy to admit that they have misdiagnosed your car. I strongly advise against taking your vehicle to this place if you value your money and want it fixed correctly. It has been two months, and my car is still blowing hot air and making a grinding noise.

I liked the way they treated me and I liked the service they offered?

ABSOLUTEY AMAZING!!!! Called them around 10 and asked how quickly they could look at my car for engine overheating and coolant leak. The man that answered said if I could get there pretty quick, they should be able to look at it before lunch.I got there about 11 and they had me out of there a little after 1. They fixed the problem (which was just a small T-head connector) and checked for any possible residual damage. Best thing... it didnt cost an arm and a leg like I expected either!SUPER friendly staff also!

I’ve been to many automotive repair shops in the past . And not one single one even comes close to rubans . They were very knowledgeable. And kept me in the loop. Every other “mechanic shop I’ve been too, it’s just a bunch of trifling mf’s who take shortcuts and don’t know how to run a business. But NOT RUBANS. I don’t think I could ever find a mechanic shop as professional as their team! I’ve have 10000000% have found my forever mechanic shop! If I could give more then 5 stars I would lol.

The best AutoRepair Shop around. I took my car here after another car completely screwed up my engine and refused to fix it. Rubens was fairly priced, they worked with me on pricing and even ended up helping me find a buyer for my car after we realized I needed a total new engine. The most honest and reliable business. If you are wanting an honest place to get your car repaired Rubens is that place. Ruben and his staff are great people. Expect to be treated with respect and actual true honesty (unlike other places that claim they are being honest and are not). You will not be over charged. You will not be up sold. And you will not be advised to do unneeded repairs. You will get charged fairly for parts and labor. Being a woman I dread getting any type of work done on my car because I am treated as if I do not know what I am talking about and I usually told that I need more work and expensive work done on my car when I really dont. NOT HERE!! Ruben and his staff wont make you feel that way. I truly believe they treat you like you are family. I leave there knowing my car is in good hands with people who care about me and my safety. Any and all repairs that have been done have never had any issues. I have spent some money here. But, my bill was itemized there are no hidden charges or charges I did not understand. The parts used when I looked them were priced perfectly and honestly. The labor is a lot less than other places I have been but again honestly priced. I wont go anywhere else.

Ruben’s Auto Repair is the best, period.I was involved in an accident and before my insurance could even look at the pictures, they wanted to total it out. I had my car towed to Ruben’s and the insurance kept trying to pick it up and store it in their warehouse even after the insurances adjuster said it could be saved. The are up front, honest and do EVERYTHING to help you. They kept me informed more than my insurance did. They will work with you and if they can’t, they will let you know. That is a very long list of problems condensed into a paragraph so that you know to take your vehicle.Don’t think about it. If you have vehicle problems, take it Rubens.Do not listen to tow truck drivers that arrive on the scene, do not listen to your insurance. They installed a brand new ac compresser kit in my 2003 Lariat in less than 2 days and it works great. Brought my trucknin Friday around 2:30 and at 5 they called and told me step by step what they found. I already knew I needed a kit but by Monday afternoon they had the truck ready. The guys I work with highly recommended Rubens and Im glad I took my truck there. Great job and very reasonable price!

If you want honesty and great service don’t hesitate to bring your vehicle in I was so tired of driving everywhere and being miss informed and treated like a burden. Tony and the guys at the shop were amazing. I called the shop because I thought I was having a major engine problem. Tony squeezed me in first thing in the morning. They quickly diagnosed the issue which thankfully was a simple fix. They ran full diagnostics just to make sure I didnt have any other issues. The price was extremely fair and now my car is running like a dream. Rudys, you now have a customer for life. Im just sorry I cant remember any other names because they deserve a shout out too.

Great, honest car repair. Ruben is a great guy and I have trusted him with my cars for years. They have always treated me fairly and do a great job fixing my cars. The mechanics are top notch. The office personnel are very friendly. I think most people love this place.

These guys did in 30-40 minutes for me better than what the dealership couldn’t do! I went in for a body panel issue that took the dealership an entire “day” to fix. And my service advisor literally took a 2 minute look at my hatch and pointed out several flaws not disclosed to me and make me much more aware of my product. It’s very sad at the lack of response from the dealership but these guys are seasoned and good at what they do at this shop. They handled my warranty claim right in front of me and made me feel like I wasn’t an idiot like the dealership did for having a problem with my car. 100% for sure this place comes well recommended from me. It really seems they care about taking care of their customers and not just getting “one over” on them.

Not recommending this shop. 5 days and $250 for changing a belt later, I finally have my truck back.So there was a friendly neighbor who took a look at my truck. He verified my AC was done and not to drive it. He recommended this shop so I called them on a Friday and they said I can go ahead with the tow. When I get there, then they tell me theyll be able to look at it on Monday. In four days. So Monday comes and they call with an estimate for a complete overhaul of $2000. I asked them just to make it drivable because I didnt have 2k. Initially they tell me I would have to buy an old compressor from them for $189 to bypass the AC. My son gave him info that are neighbor suggested and they were condescending to my son. I later get a call back that they figured out how to bypass my AC buy using a shorter serpentine belt which is exactly what my son was saying. Well that cost me more than his previous suggestion somehow. I also didnt want to pay for another tow. Now that its driving, Ill be looking for a more reliable shop to have my AC done. Its been frustrating process and would hate for someone else make the same mistake.

Came in with a fuel pump light on. Car was there for 5 days waiting on warranty. They tell me my whole engine needs to be replaced. How did we go from fuel pump area to complete engine replacement. Went to get a 2nd opinion and fuel pump pressure was the problem and not the engine. They charge me for replacing the fuel filter 250 3 days later getting a oil change and they show me the filter was not replace at all. So not only did they lie to up sale me to buy a whole new engine but did not do what they said they did for 250.

As of yet, I haven’t actually had my vehicle repaired here. However, these people know what they are doing. The guy who took care of my vehicle when I had it towed there over the weekend was quick to call me with an update on Monday morning. He had already called the dealer, gave them the VIN and determined that the dealer will most likely honor the repair/replacement free of charge. Without an active recall, I was leery of this, but he talked me through the process of what would happen. Later that day I had it towed to the dealership and the events that took place in the next 3-4 days were EXACTLY as he predicted.If I hadn’t towed to this shop, who knows if I would have ever known about this engine “recall”. Also, some other shops may had looked at it and said yep, it’ll be $____ , just hoping to get the money.I’ll be taking both of my vehicles here from now on. Thank you!

Car was a problem with the throttle body and was shutting off. Did a little research and found a fix to replace the unit. Went to the shop where they advised to clean it first and see if that helps. Unfortunately it did not so I took it back, bought the part and wanted them to replace it. They were hesitant because it was not showing that it was faulty but I urged them to replace it. Got a callback an hour later saying that they found out that the part had an extended warranty by Ford for 10 years and that I would get it for free at the dealership, which I did. Moral of the story is that these guys are legit because they took the time to look up the part and find the recall even if they could have made money of me by just replacing the faulty part themselves. Hopefully I will not have any car problems in the near future but if I do, I know where to go! Thanks again.

They did a great job with fixing my vehicle. I have a older model Ford SUV and it needs alot of work. So they gave me fair estimate and I got th most important work done first. I wil be back to finish the rest and get even more work done.

Not cheap, but they got my truck back into great running shape! Had taken it to fix the A/C to another shop on Fredericksburg Rd and they never got the A/C running right, but Rubens was able to fix it correctly and its running excellent now! They also fixed several other things that needed to be taken care of on my 17 year old Chevy Silverado, and now I feel like Ive got a trustworthy vehicle again.

Had an engine light come on on my car. They were very fast, through, and didnt try to sell me anything I didnt need. It felt like a small time community business that makes its money on return business and a good reputation. I highly recommend going there, but you will be paying at least the $79 for their diagnostic exam.

We took our 2006 Honda Odyssey to Ruben because we had a rattling in the front end. Ruben personally diagnosed the problem and found the timing belt tensioner was retracted. His team did an entire repair and replacement of all the parts including the water pump... at a very, very reasonable price and our family van is now like a new car. In fact, the day after we picked up our car, we went on a 3,000 mile road trip to California and our van purred like a kitten. Took my vehicle in twice for the exact same problem (misfiring). The first visit was a tab of $700.00 and I end up having to come back for the same issue for an additional $400.00 in repairs. After I picked up my car for the second go around with Ruben’s Auto...the very next morning the exact same problem occurs while I’m on the highway. I took it back in for the third time and they said it needed something else...go figure.I told them “No thank you. I’ll pick it up later.” Over $1000 in repairs and a week in the shop and no results. As I’m picking up my car the manager tells me the car is running fine now and if the check engine light comes on he’ll turn it off for me.

Ruben is honest fare in his prices. When I was a single woman, Ruben took care of my vehicles and never one time tried to cheat me out of money. I so appreciate them for that, therefore I continue to go to them for all of my vehicle needs.

Did a great job on my car, my particular part was hard to find (as they dont make the vehicle in the US anymore) and instead of rushing it like other places I went to (got brakes done 3x in the last year) they made sure I got the one I needed which was very important bc I use it for my routes! After running around, back and forth with our warranty company, Rubens automotive was able to not only diagnose the problem, but went above and beyond to make sure that we were covered and well taken care of. Called in the am and my wife dropped car off 2 hrs later. Was told axle needed to be replaced so got a rental car but car was ready next day! Great service!! Will be back! ( when need to that is)

He seemed really nice and agreed to inspect a car we were thinking about buying for my son. It was a salvage title so we wanted to make sure the frame wasnt damaged. He gave it a thumbs up so we bought the car. Two weeks later someone hit the front bumper we took it to him for the repair. When we picked up the car the trunk wouldnt close. He painted the back bumper as a courtesy (we didnt see a problem w it) he told us he noticed damage in the rear that was poorly repaired. We reminded him that he checked the car before we bought it. A month ago someone rear ended the car and the insurance adjuster told us the car had a very poor previous repair and we suffered a huge loss. I was told by several auto body shops that all he had to do was look in the trunk to see the extensive damage.

We took our car in at 8 am on Tuesday, it is now Saturday and we still dont know the status of our car. We went here because we had to for Drive Time Warranty. Very disappointed with the service, every time we call, the person was on break. We needed the car by Monday. Its been very inconvenient this last week, and the lack of communication is unprofessional. They didnt even look at the car till Wednesday.

Have been coming here for years. The management and service techs have always been straight with me. I tell them what other repair places do or dont do and they are truly disgusted. The staff here cares about their customers and their safety. I will be back!

In reply to your explanation…we found the short (under the dash at passenger side) not long after you had the vehicle for a week. Thankfully the car is running great now!

Theyll take care of whatever you need really. Just be sure to call a week ahead so that you can schedule your car for maintenance or repair.
