Hutzel Plumbing & Heating was great! They showed at roughly 9 A.M. and we were back up and running around 4 P.M. right before the freezing temperatures hit our area. I couldn’t be more thankful for them taking such good care me and my family. I will continue to use them for all my plumbing and heating needs.

I originally gave them 4 stars - We since had them over for other job and they seems to be better at scheduling and following up - So updated to 5 starts.It is extremely complicated to give an accurate rating. We used them at the house we own, as well as interacting with them at numerous of our previous rental place in Ann Arbor.- It is a family own business. They are extremely easy to deal with and always open to received feedbacks and finds solutions over the phone or in person.- They do an amazing jobs. The result are clean, detailed and meet the expectations.- They are experienced: Not matter what your house is, they will have the knowledge for it. If the house is recent and standard built every plumbers will do the trick. But if something is unusual, old, odd... They will be the guys with the best expertise and solutions for it.- They are well priced. By all means, they always come with good estimates that match the market (You can always find cheaper, but it comes with a certain risk). Never went above the original price despite Surprised and actually often being under it.- They will take their time. Not to over charge you but to make sure the job is matching the previously mentioned expectations.So why not 5 stars be aware: That company is well established in Ann Arbor.So they received a lots and a lots of request. Fame comes with a price: availability.Unless extremely urgent job and being extremely lucky they rarely can come in under 3 weeks.Most of the time, their opening for urgency are filled in with previously uncompleted jobs. Remember about the odd contracts? Well it makes contract getting longer than expected and it snowball effects their schedule - Logical.One of the latest job, we need them for... Was obviously going to be a lots of oddness. So I called them in early July to have a technician inspecting our furnace and determining the action needed.They usually dont do furnace in the middle of summer. Knowing their tendency to over pass the schedule. I really insisted for them to come sooner: Middle of august.The technician comes and we received confirmation something was fishy for the furnace and proposed a cleaver way to solved it.I schedule for the repair BEFORE I even received a quote - I trust them for the price.So what? We explicitly since July told them we want it done by Oct 1st. Our new born being schedule mid Oct. And it is Michigan: Winter is coming at the end of September.I had to free 8 half days and 2 full days total for only 4 visits because the Tech was busy elsewhere and did not cancel our appointment.At the end, the tech did make a tremendous job and make it so the furnace can work (that was after Michigan started is colder cycle).I really really really want to give them 5 stars because they are a great company. They just have such a problematic way of scheduling and being on track with it. My last experience with them was the worst by far, all the previous time it went well.You have to call them, and insist almost every week to see the job moving forward. So if you go with them, just be prepared for it!I would still recommend them to anyone, they earned my trust. However schedule... schedule... schedule... One day, they might be able to fix that and they will deserved a 5 stars review.

Tried Hutzel Plumbing recently for a furnace issue. Have to agree with the real reviews on here. Was fully made aware of the charges upfront. And in fact, in my experience, there was no charge. I am a new home owner and there was some issue that Hutzel fixed pro-bono. The tech wore a mask, was super helpful and taught me how to avoid issues in the future. I will for sure use them in the future. And for the record, they were recommended by my parents who live in Ann Arbor and have been using them for years.

We had to turn off our water supply shut-off for a bathroom remodel. When we went to turn the water supply back on the stupid old gate valve broke and we couldnt turn it back on.We called a dozen plumbing places, the few who answered our call had no time for weeks to help us. Dire.Hutzel made time on their schedule, got us taken cared of the very next day, installing two new shiny ball valves that should last years. Everyone was fast, masked and helpful. AND their price was very reasonable! Would recommend to anyone.

Save your time and money. I had them come out to replace a leaking T&P valve on a hot water heater and was told that all work was warrantied if the fix didn’t correct the issue. The valve continued to leak, so I called back and requested an expansion tank. Hutzel talked us out of the expansion tank over the phone saying they didn’t believe it would fix the issue.They then sent someone else out (who reeked of alcohol) to replace the T&P valve 2 more times! All the valve replacements continued to leak, so we called back and had another person come out to “assess” the problem. They finally agreed to install the expansion tank and replace the thermostat (at my request) – but they had to come back after the weekend because the parts weren’t in stock.They charged us for 3 separate visits, which they called “different problems,” even though the 5 separate visits in total were all to address the same exact problem we initially called about – a leaking T&P valve.Then they sent a large bill (over $1,000) in the mail 2 months after final service was performed, and demanded it be paid within 4 days of receipt (it was received on a Friday). They then charged a late fee for the bill not being paid promptly within the 4-day deadline. The woman who took my payment, Kim, was very rude over the phone. She refused to provide me with some sort of receipt and was highly annoyed when I then asked for a transaction confirmation number. This company is very unprofessional, find a different one for your needs.I should add that they agreed to lower the final bill by about $160 after arguing for a half hour on the phone. Would you pay $900 for a T&P valve replacement?

Had service contract and our hot water heater went out. contract says same day service. took 5 days to come out. due to they were saying the hotwater heater was too old to fix. wanted to sell me a new heater over the phone. when they did come out. said the problem was not covered under the contract. did not fix it. instead told me they would sell me a new hot water heater. i said no. repairman was in my home 15 minutes. week later i got a bill for $175.00. they told me due to the part was not covered by the contract the service call was not covered. so your telling me a service call is not covered under a service contract. told them all they did was a service call.i called a friend who is a real estate agent. they know how to find repair men. the man came out and fixed the part.all with in the time frame of my service contract.so dont waste your money on these people.

Hutzel Heating and Cooling:Our furnace was working with our generator until today (we have a power outage). This morning, it wouldnt light and my husband couldnt figure out why.Hutzels website was working, but not their phone line. Hubby left a message on the website, and they quickly called and diagnosed the issue -a dirty flame detector- and walked my husband through how to clean it. Heat is now on!!❤️😍Seriously LOVE that place!(We purchased through Hutzel about five years ago.)

New home owner here. Recently purchased a house on the west side and was experiencing an issue with our furnace. Hutzel came out and made the necessary repairs. The technician was professional, arrived on time, and all charges were valid and transparent. Especially appreciated when the technician explained to me what repairs were necessary and why. I have 100% confidence in Hutzel. They will be my go-to in the summer should I experience any AC issues. And god forbid Have any plumbing issues. If I do, I know Hutzel will be there for me.

Hutzel plumbing did a great job fixing a leaky shower and faucet at my grandparents house. Prices were appropriate and comparable to other estimates I received. The employee was on time, professional, and the total cost turned out to be less than the original estimate. Two months in and no issues to report. 10/10 would use Hutzel again and will happily recommend Hutzel to friends and family.

John came to fix a faulty check valve of our sump pump. Friendly and efficient, also took his time to listen to my questions and explained everything in details to me.I will definitely call Hutzel in the future for all my plumbing needs!

I work for Restoration 1 of Ann Arbor and I had a client with a water leak and the city had to shut the water off at the street. I needed an emergency plumber ASAP and Brian was extremely helpful. He was able to dispatch a plumber and have them on site hours ahead of the other plumbers I called.The technician Ken was on site, had the problem repaired, AND called the city getting service back on within 60 minutes of my call. My client was beyond impressed. Not to mention, was able to call the city minutes before 5pm which saved my client after hour city charges.Thank you to the Hutzel team! I will be calling again.Chris

I have been using Hutzel since 1978. I was treasurer of a condo organization for several years and we always used them to take care of our condo issues. When my husband passed and could no longer do repairs, I reconnected with hutzel and I have a yearly maintenance program with them. They have always been responsive, resolved every issue I have presented them with regarding heating, plumbing, air-conditioning, water heater. I have been totally pleased and would not think of changing companies. That’s a long history with one company and I believe in supporting local businesses who demonstrate excellent workmanship and professionalism. I have never had one problem with them! Barbara Yoder

Pipes burst in the condo where we live and they were promt to come out and evaluate the problem and fix it. John was so dedicated to solving the problem immediately. This had also happened last year and the company who worked then was awful and left us without our bathroom for 8 months. Hutzel really is far superior and I highly recommend them.

Today, 1/12/23 Hutzel scheduled service appointment was a 5-star problem solved. Frank O. not only explained what needed to be done but did so in the timely efficient way Hutzel has helped us over more then 30 years. Frank O. was able save us money and a mess with his careful analysis of the plumbing problem and replacement of a worn out part. Thank You. We look forward to more years of business with Hutzel in the plumbing and heating needs of caring for our home.

Chet from Hutzel was outstanding. Came to our house regarding a back-up we were experiencing in the basement . Clearly explained what was going on (and referred me to Michigan Power Rodding) and altered me to some other issues that might arise in the future based on how the house had been plumbed. Even quickly looked at an issue I hadnt called, where I was worried we might have a leak. In addition to the great service today, I learned always to consult with a service plumber when remodeling. Great local business!

I totally agree with one of negative review here for this company. Please see below for his comment. I had almost same experience with him. Never use this company, otherwise your money will be stolen.If I could give a negative rating I would. This plumbing company took advantage of my 85 year old father. My father replaced the battery on his sump pump. Hutzel technician name Chet told my father he will use the new battery on the new sump pump he would install. He quoted my father $900, $300 less because of the new battery. He did not provide an invoice and left. My father received a bill for $1200 in the mail. If anyone in the company reads this, his invoice number is 64203. Please resolve this issue and honor the verbal quote given to him

We called this company to fit a potential leaky toilet. The plumber arrived late by over an hour. He talked to us for 15 minutes about his drive. Replaced a handle on the toilet for maybe 10 minutes of working time, then talked to us about the rest of his day for 15 minutes.Here is the bill:Toilet handle $6.75Work time $106 (45 minutes)Arrival Fee $45Most companies do not charge an arrival fee if you elect to use them for the repair. More so, most companies do not charge an arrival fee if they arrive an hour late. Being charged for the plumber talking to us about his personal stories for 30 minutes (which we didnt have time to listen to since he already arrived late) sounds crazy.Lastly, to snap in a toilet handle which cost $6 and took less than 10 minutes, a total fee of $150 sounds completely unreasonable.We learned from our mistake and called some other local plumbers who quoted us $50 for this, including everything.Buyer beware.We previously had a clogged drain repaired as well. That was a bargain at:$177.50

If I could give them a ZERO I would. They were out this past January to replace the control module on my Whirlpool gas water heater. I remember at the time it was installed, it took 45 minutes when it should have taken close to 2 hours. The reason it didnt take that long was because the technician ON PURPOSE DID NOT DRAIN the water tank. So here I am 6 months later having to replace the control module AGAIN. And if that wasnt bad (and expensive) enough, Hutzel waited OVER A MONTH to bill me and then billed me for 2 hours of service. When I phoned them, they couldnt account for that time and only said the price seemed reasonable to them. Having to have another plumbing company come out 6 months later to REPAIR the poor service is NOT reasonable. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!

We had a plumbing emergency recently with our whole house water filter. Hutzel Plumbing was super professional, showed up within 30 minutes of us calling, and was able to solve the issue quickly and efficiently! They were extremely knowledgeable, helpful, easy to work with and super nice. Definitely would recommend them!

Dealing with multiple (unexpected) renovations for almost a full year, weve worked with many different people; some great and some not so great, and weve learned how to tell the difference.Hutzel is great. We hired them in the beginning of our renovation; other people who have worked on our home have commented on how good the plumbing is. We hired them again to finish the job.They were prompt, professional, friendly, and respectful of our home. The professional who worked on finishing up the renovation with our sink/disposal/dishwasher answered my many questions and explained things to me that will be useful if I need to do some simple fixes myself. It is a rare and precious thing to find a company that cares more about its clients than profits. Good plumbing is an investment for the future. Our huge, unexpected renovation was the result of a past owner going with the least expensive offer. Hutzel was not the cheapest offer we got, but they are worth far more than they charge.

Hutzel Plumbing in Ann Arbor has been our go to plumbing and heating company for over 30 years.The negative reviews listed seem suspect. I’ve used Hutzel for both my home and business and so have my parents and siblings. People might not be aware that Hutzel is a family operated small business that has been doing business in Ann Arbor since the turn of the century. Their knowledge and quality of work cannot be beat. Also their contributions to the community will outlast any house flippers who feel the need to leave poor reviews because Hutzel charged them a bit more than the competition. There’s a reason why they’ve been in business this long. Further, next time you’re walking the streets of Ann Arbor look down at the metal covers on the sidewalks. Many will say Hutzel Plumbing. They are an iconic institution in Ann Arbor for a reason.

A friend referred me to Hutzel for (unrelated) maintenance recently, I was hesitant to switch from my previous servicing company mainly because they have more negative online reviews than Id like to see but today my furnace died today and I called 3 companies for help. Hutzel was the only one who could help me quickly, they sent a guy out right away and he diligently worked on the problem, replaced a broken part and had the furnace up and running in less than one hour. I was very happy with the responsiveness/customer service, the tech got the job done right and quick and their price was significantly lower than the other 2 companies quoted me. Thank you.

I just hired Hutzel to install central A/C for summer, and a furnace-attached humidifier for winter. The installers arrived exactly when they said they would, were very clean, friendly and professional, and did a fantastic job. They charged me exactly what I was quoted before the job, even though they had to call in an electrician and do a few other things that hadnt been expected by the estimator. In fact, when I asked if they could also do an extra job while they were there (hooking up a gas dryer vent) they didnt even charge me for the extra materials or labor!This is my second positive experience with Hutzel, who did some major plumbing work for me a couple years ago. They were great then, and I have definitely recommended them to friends who have said they were very happy with them too.

HORRIBLE. This is the first service Ive used bad enough to prompt me bothering to post a frank, terrible review.I called to have a broken shower handle fixed. When the service person arrived he suggested that I order a particular faucet cartridge online to save money vs Hutzel doing so, which I appreciated, though Hutzel may not.I ordered this part for a grand total of $76.86. When the service person attempted to install this part on his second visit, he dropped one of the four cartridge base plate screws into the faucet fixture hole where it could not be retrieved. THEN he discovered that he had suggested the wrong cartridge, and I found out that my $76.86 had been wasted!I then had to research and order the correct cartridge. Rather than await a 3rd fateful visit, I was able to install the correct cartridge myself and notified Hutzel Plumbing that no further visits were needed.I did not receive a bill for the 2 short, futile visits (for $215!) until months later and assumed it was automatically generated by mistake since nothing was fixed by them and I incurred the expense of the wrongly recommended part. I politely explained the above by email to Hutzels treasurer, and offered to pay a fair, reduced sum, factoring in my wasted money on the wrong part, my wasted time way from work, and the fact that Hutzel fixed NOTHING for me.The treasurer proceeded with collections and legal threats, which I dont think will turn out in their favor given the clear facts of the matter.Buyer beware!

I highly suggest to stay away from this business.I called them for s big project in a complex sump pump system I have.They sent a plumber who didnt even know how to work on it. He said that I needed someone with more experience and he was going to let that person know.Nothing happened and I call so the second guys came, took a few pictures a said that he was going to give me a quote.Again nothing happened so I called and I spoke with the most experienced plumber who came, understood what I needed and said he was going to send me a quote.Until today I dont have a quote but I got an invoice for nothing.I called the admin to ask why do I have to pay for an invoice when I dont even have a quote and I met a very rude person that they only thing he cared was to collect 200 bucks from me and he cared the less that I didnt have a quote. The kind of person you dont want to talkThese people is so unprofessional and they truly do not understand how to treat customers. I would highly recommend you to find a better company to work with

We had another company come to our house for an estimate to do plumbing work in two bathrooms. The other company was going to charge over $1,000! I cancelled that company & I called Hutzel. Hutzel came out the next day and did all the work professionally for $400 less than the other company. Now I have a leak under my sink, and I just called them again. The receptionist was very polite, and I have another job scheduled. I looked at the other bad reviews and I was surprised by them b/c Ive only gotten great service and professional interactions from them.

We have a vacation home here in Ann Arbor. Recently we had Hutzel out to the house to deal with a plumbing issue. The technician was on time, wore a mask and was expedient in his work. I was fully aware of all charges upfront. It’s hard for me to understand the other reviews stating that they were duped. We did not experience anything other than transparency and quality work.

Very poor service. Rampart overcharging on labor hours. They billed us for two people when one just stood around or made personal calls. Extremely poor communication and repeated misses on getting permits pulled. Have to look for alternatives.Follow up: Following up on Hutzel’s attempt to brand this a fake review. We will not call in to talk with rude representatives again. But this is not a fake review. If he wants, he can get in touch at a phone number ending in 1127 (cell) or 1368 (home).

Quality of work was good. However, customer service was poor. When I made the appointment, was told they charge normal rate in 15 minute increments and that would be the cost. Late by 30 minutes with no notification or updates, then I received invoice charging 30 minutes for 11 minutes of work. Was also charged $48 of travel charge for being outside borders of Ann Arbor, but was not notified by office or technician that there is a travel charge. When I called the office to resolve the concern, was told the invoice is what it is.

As the previous most recent reviews have stated, these negative one off reviews must be fiction. Literal fiction. All the comments regarding the billing being deceptive are false. Hutzel has always been upfront with me about costs - from the arrival fee to the final bill the company is more than upfront with the cost. I’ve used them in the dead of winter on my furnace and on the hottest days of summer for my AC. Whoever is complaining is trying to nickel and dime an Ann Arbor institution that has been around longer than my parents have been alive. Shame on them!

We gave had a water heater, air conditioning, humidifier and air filtration system installed by Hutzels all at different times over the past 2 years. The staff is attentive, generous with their time and professional. The installers clearly have years of experience and are not tripped up by anything unusual they may encounter. Sales Rep Barb Logie is knowledgeable about products and makes good recommendations based on home needs. We have also picked up replacement filters and the service department peopke ste friendly and even waited a few minutes after 5 pm for us when we were delayed in traffic. Who does that nowadays? Thank you for all your work on our behalf.

Tuesday afternoon my living room baseboard heat pipe ruptured and it was about 10° outside. So, faced with no heat and water damage I first notified my homeowners insurance claims department and then set out to find a repair company. Not every company works on boilers and Hutzel came recommended by a local repair man in Milan. So when I called Tuesday afternoon I was informed that they were running at overtime rates with a two hour minimum until Friday so I said go ahead and put me down for Friday and I would just tough it out with space heaters until then. Being off work one entire year and surviving on 50% of my pay for six months of that I couldn’t afford the overtime rates having just gotten back on my feet solidly financially. Friday morning came and no one had called to give me a timeframe so I called at 9 o’clock to inquire and was told that I was not on their schedule anywhere. How can this be??? After speaking with a couple people I was told that someone would be out and he would call when he was on his way. 1 o’clock came no call so I called the office and was told the same thing “he’s coming he will call first”. 4 o’clock came still no call I called the office “he still coming he’ll call you” and I just told the lady that I need to know if I needed to call off work Since I am scheduled at 7 PM Night Shift and was ASSURED that he was coming so I called off for my third night in a row and shorted my unit where I am a nurse at U of M hospital and missed out and some substantial cash. GUESS what... he never called nor came and now it’s the weekend where it’s all overtime rates of which I was trying to avoid. I called the answering service and left a message explaining the above story and was told she would give it to management. I am extremely frustrated, disappointed and not sure if I should be looking for another company if there is another company that works on boilers in this area. it’s pretty cold outside And space heaters are OK but can’t heat your entire house the way it’s required.

Called them for an emergency plumbing services. After getting all my information they said the plumber would be there with in an hour. After two hours of waiting no one showed up. When I called they said, they dont know who they dispatch so I had no idea if they will eventually show up. So I called another company which said if I called them earlier it would have been much cheaper and quicker for them to come.

If I could give them a negative star rating I would.We called them to fix a valve on the tub they ended up fixing all three valves, but the middle valve that turns on the shower did not work they had to come three times half a$$ed fixed it, then had the nerve to charge us for three visits to fix there mistake! Ill give them this much after calling an emailing several times the finally agree to just paying for the first visit only......we still had issues to the point a second plumbing company to come out an fix their mistake.

Good quality work, fair pricing. We have been using Hutzel for years. Our most recent experience included a new furnace. We’ve used them in the past for plumbing also as we like to keep our business local.

Wed just bought a house in Ann Arbor and it had super loud sump pump. We asked a friend who their plumber was and they said Hutzel. We called and someone came out and they explained everything about sump pumps to us. They worked on the sump pump and it was so much quieter. They also told us about a back up system. We had them come back to install a back up and it has saved our basement from flooding twice in four years! They are professional, friendly and affordable. Highly recommend.

Thanks first to Doug for the his quick, accurate diagnostics on my furnace AND helping by bringing up my heavy heater and stove board from the basement (part had to be ordered) so I would have heat in the interim..... Then to BJ who it turned out had some cool old ties to the neighborhood, did a great job and then offered to take the heater back downstairs too. Awesome work guys!! Thanks Hutzel, the people in the office I spoke to were also very helpful and accommodating. Recommending to my neighbors!

Called when I couldnt get new water lines to our washer to stop leaking. The guy (I think it was Justin or Jason) was there in less than an hour and fixed it. The bill was $105 - incredible for the fast, competent service. Im going always go to Hutzel exclusively (and did today when I found another leak).

I purchased a Glentronics sump pump system with integrated battery back up and alarm from Hutzel a little over two years ago. The system started failing about a year after installation. As it turned out, discovered they installed the wrong sub-systems after multiple visits Hutzel. Hutzel eventually replaced the sub-system and battery as a warranty repair. Unfortunately, one year later the system failed again. These guys may be good plumbers but they seem like technically challenged to me. I cannot recommend Hutzel as a vendor at all.

They sent an inexperienced kid to correct some plumbing issues unrelated to their work. He walked around the home telling the customer how new he was and that he needed to find help. When he realized he couldnt handle the scope of work he began dropping f-bombs and many other expletives in the customers driveway and stormed off while hurtling insults at me. He said he didnt need this effed-up job. As a general contractor Ive rarely seen this type of behavior from a professional plumbing company, especially considering that it came so unprovoked. I asked Hutzel to come help me with something because I needed advice and knowledge that I believed fell in their skill set. Instead I was embarrassed in front of my customer and left scrambling to find another local company to help. There are plenty of options in the Ypsilanti / Ann Arbor area. You can do better than Hutzel.

Hutzel pulled a permit of A/C installation on my rental property without my knowledge in Oct 2017. I didnt ask for the A/C and no work was done by Hutzel either. When the inspector from Rental Housing Services came for the inspection in early July 2018, only at that time I realized there was a permit pulled on me. The inspection result was a non-compliant item since no final mechanical inspection was conducted. I had to called Hutzel numerous times to ask them to cancel the permit. I talked to Brain 2 times, no action. Then talked to Paul 3 times. He told me he submitted a cancellation request, which was in late July , 3 weeks after I began to complain to Hutzel. As of today, 8/30, the permit has not been cancelled yet. City of AA sent me a letter asking for $10 for each record check, and $100 after 2nd record check. This incident happened all because Hutzel pulled a permit without owners permission. Also the experience of dealing with them is worst than that the bureaucracy of government agencies! I have never receive any apology from them either.

We called them for a pipe repair. They sent one man who said it was too much for him and he would send someone else to give an estimate, but they didnt and we had to call again. A man came in, said it was much more extensive than our heating man had said and that they would have to tear up more of the cealing and the floor above it. They didnt come to give the promised estimate until we called and the man who came was so rude and left yelling well get another opinion then! and stomped out the door when we asked a few questions. We called another plumber, who fixed the leak without tearing up anything and did it on the first call. I will never call them again!

Hutzel was Fantastic to work with! The evening of 12/22, my main water line to my house broke, out of 8 companies, Barb returned my call first thing on Monday, came out on Wednesday morning and had the quote to me within a few hours. Schedule the work on 1/7, Bud, John and Robert did a fantastic job in digging the hole, pulling the new line through, cleaning up after themselves both inside my home and outside in my yard and street. Youve saved me money and landscaping repairs!!! Warren the inspector came out as soon as he could to inspect and approve the work. Honestly, Barb, Bud, John, Robert and Warren treated me like a relative and I really appreciate their kindness and their diligent work. I would definitely recommend Hutzel Heating and Cooling! Thank-you Barb, Bud, John, Robert and Warren!! We (Cooper, Ruby and I) really appreciate all of you so much!!

After an appointment made 11/27 /2019, i got two bills, 1 hr $142 +$45 trip charges. And the an other 0.75 hr. $106 . Lol......that price was totally different with was phone talking. Phone said the Second house for free. the guy came to my place from in till out only 10 minutes and going to an other house use 3 minutes on trip , in and out from Second house 5 minutes. for two houses no more then 30 minutes exactly! Do not fix anything and done. Before he left, I was asking about bill and he said office in charge for bill matters. I called office today want to clarify my bills to make payment. a Lady, very rude talking with me on the phone, do not even let saying words..... fine ! Done ✅ 12/19/2019

Horrible experience with an estimator who works for the company. He came to my house and said he was busy, but would email me the quote within a week. I called a week later, he tells me Ill email it to you within the next few days. A week later, still nothing. I called again, complained to the owner, and told him that I have been waiting for two weeks. The owner had the estimator call me back and this estimator guy was very rude and agitated over the phone (clearly upset that I complained to his boss). After a good 16 days he finally emailed me a quote and he quoted me double the price of any other company (clearly intentional and vindictive). Very unprofessional and rude estimator. Hutzel will not ever get my business or my familys business due to this negative experience with one man.

Terrible customer service! I would give zero stars if I can. We called to repair our heating&A/C unit on Nov.22 and now its Jan24, but it has not been repaired yet. The guy came once, said we need to order a part, it took over 2 weeks to get it, came one more time, discovered that we need another part. Ordered it again, took perhaps 3 weeks to get it, it turned out that this was a WRONG part!!! In the meantime we needed to call them multiple times to figure out when the parts will be delivered. The technicians always promise that the office will call within one hour, a day passes and nobody calls until we call and inquire whats going on. They dont care that now its the middle of winter and for two months we have been without working heating. Absolutely terrible, uncaring company. They dont even apologize for such delays, just blame somebody else.

DO NOT TRUST HUTZEL!!! I had them come out for a service call that I knew would take no longer than 5 minutes for them. The guy spent a few minutes completing the job and then looked over other parts of my system and gave me helpful advice for another half hour, as he angled to be the person who did the annual service on my system. He told me there would be no charge because the job itself was so quick. Three weeks later I got a bill for $125 that included $40 for his drive out and $85 for 45 minutes of work. Needless to say, I will never use them again!!! If you can use Sinks to Sewers, definitely call them instead!!!

They came to my house to do Lemon drop and they moved furnace and AC. After two hours I lost my AC and had tried to call their emergency number. They only care about charging me after hours rates and not listening or to my complain. After going in and circle for 15 minutes they took my complain and said someone will contact you shortly. An hour later I called again and they said they not coming to fix my AC that they destroyed, and my family had to sleep in 85 degree night. Mr. in charge you can email [email protected]

Ive used Hutzel when my furnace went out and when my AC wasnt working (separate occasions, thankfully). I called at peak times, so they could come out immediately, but when they did, the technician was fast, efficient, and did not try to sell me on anything I didnt need. It was low-pressure and high-quality.

Bottom line: charge extra time, and do not come on time. Ill never call them again.Johnny scheduled to 12 pm, but called on 9:30 to verify that Im home because hes on his way. I wasnt but I managed to get there at 9:45. He did something for 15 minutes - played with the furnace and said I needed to replace the filter. He left the driveway at 10:00.I was charged for 45 minutes! When I called, they checked with him and he claimed to have been here for 38 minutes. They said that even if he was her for 15, he had to do two minutes of paperwork, and 17 is rounded up to 30, so theyre willing to negotiate and charge me for 30.DO NOT TRUST THEIR WORK, TIME ESTIMATES OR ARRIVAL TIME!I hope he at least did something to have my furnace work as should for the upcoming winter. Since this is our first home with a furnace it is too soon to judge.Ill never call them again.

Well needless to say this review is long over due. And I felt the need to finally do this when I saw all the negative reviews for Hutzel. A company my grandparent, parents, and I have used. Yea you read that right. Three generations of my family have used this company and what I am reading is egregious at best and fake at worse.There is no other company in Washtenaw county that I trust for my HVAC and plumbing needs. Let me repeat that - THERE IS NO OTHER COMPANY TO TRUST THAN HUTZEL.Whatever is going on with Google not vetting these reviews should not impact a company that has been around since the early 1800’s.

Bad business practices! They sent out a plan in promotional mail for, among other things, one-time air conditioning inspection for $105. I called and mentioned the plan and the dispatcher scheduled an appointment. After the services rendered, I get a bill for double the amount. When I call to complain, they say you have to submit payment prior to services rendered to get the discount. Even if not per se fraud since the fine-print says you have to mail in the check, it is clearly misleading as they are being sent in promotional advertising campaign. The dispatcher should have mentioned that I would not receive the advertising price, and in fact, i would be charged double! This gives you a feel for their business culture.

There’s something really fishy about these negative reviews.I’ve used Hutzel for heating and cooling and plumbing and have never witnessed or experienced the things people are writing about. I don’t think people understand the type of impact a fake review will have on a business. And I think these are fake given that most are one off reviews. I know for a fact Hutzel is the go-to business in my neighborhood for plumbing, heating and cooling issues. I honestly feel bad for this family owned business that has been in business in Ann Arbor since the 1800’s. Hutzel was here before Google and will be here long after these one off reviews.

These fake reviews on here for 1 star crack me up. People please tell me you have more than enough wherewithal to understand that single one off review where Hutzel is the ONLY REVIEW are fake. Come on! Common sense here. This company has been so helpful to me and generous with their time. Often times I am not charged and am simply given advice on how to avoid issues.

We have used Hutzel for many years. They have sent capable repair people and been available 24/7. On one occasion a Hutzel repair didnt stick -- an igniter for our furnace that had been replaced failed a few weeks later, on a cold January 1st. Hutzel came out promptly, repaired it again with a new ignitor, and waived all charges.

This company is just a scam.I had a problem in air conditioning unit of our store which is on the roof.A guy came to our store, went to the roof and checked the outdoor unit.He told me that there is no power in it and I need a electrician and left.About 10 days later, they charged me $231 (1.5 hrs x $124 & $45 trip charge).After discussion through phone, they offered to lower the work hour to 1 hour.So they charged me $169 for doing nothing!!!A few days later, an electricain came to our store and found a fuse was blown out.He replaced it and A/C is working nowI hope everyone to stay away from Hutzel. They will just take your money without doing anything.

Our Air Conditioner quit working so we called Hutzel. The service man not only had our AC running like it should, he also took the time to do maintenance on our furnace. What really impressed us was that he worked quickly and he had all the parts with him to complete the excellent service.

Furnace stopped working as the fan would no longer run. Called Hutzel on Friday and they sent someone over quickly and diagnosed the problem as a bad motor that would cost $1200 plus labor to fix. I told them to go ahead but a little while later they call and told me that they couldn’t get the part until Monday. I was away when the technician diagnosed the problem but when I returned home Friday night I noticed the motor controller has been removed from my house. I thought that was strange since they told me the motor was bad so why would the technician take the motor controller. Meanwhile, I had to borrow a bunch of space heaters to keep my house tolerable.On Saturday morning I did some research and found out that the controller has a common failure where a themistor part burns out. For a temporary fix this part can be replaced with just a wire to get the furnace up and running again. Since the controller was gone I had no way to determine if that was the furnace issue.On Monday morning I called and said I wanted my controller back. They said they were very busy and couldn’t get anyone out to my house that day to return it so I drove across town to get it back. As soon as they handed it to me I realized it had the bad themistor. I took it home, put in the wire jumper and had my heat going again. I ordered a new themistor ($10 for 2) on the internet. Not long afterward the technician showed up at my house to replace the motor. I was surprised he showed up since I had been told they were too busy to send anyone that day. When I explained what I’d discovered the technician said they don’t repair controllers. They only replace the entire motor and controller which can’t be purchased separately.I’m disappointed that Hutzel couldn’t fix this problem when they first came out since this is a common problem with an inexpensive fix. Instead I had to deal with space heaters and do the furnace repair myself.

We needed to replace our main water shutoff valve to the house. This required coordination with the township to shut off the water at the street level. Brian and the service tech were awesome in accommodating the glitches that occurred, so we werent without water for too long. The tech was efficient, thorough and courteous. Thank you Hutzel Plumbing!

This past Friday I had Hutzel out to my house for heating issues in my parents home. The furnace was old AF and a previous company had recommended a new one. Hutzels knowledgeable technician did his magic and voilà! They saved me $5,000!! Thanks again Hutzel!

I would give these guys a 0 if I could. Honestly, I dont usually leave bad reviews. I have pretty low expectations in general and know that we live in a world where getting a 4 hour block of time has become routine for services like plumbing. But I scheduled a week out to get a plumber to look at a shut-off valve for our toilet. Then I blocked off may calendar from 12-4 to squeeze them in. Of course, when the day arrived and I didnt receive any call by 330, I called their service office. I really didnt want to repeat this. They assured me that I was on the list and someone would call soon. Nothing. And by the time I called back their office was closed and I was referred to the online plumber - who was nice - but couldnt do anything. I get that this stuff happens. But heres the worst part. When I called the office the next day, the manager Miles basically listened and told me that hed connect me to set up another appointment. He didnt even say sorry! He just said that theyd have to reschedule - thats it! Im truly disappointed with the response by management. This is purported to be a family run business, yada, yada, yada. They have high rates but Im ok with that if there is some personal feel to it. I love support local businesses but not if it is at major sacrifice of quality. Really hate to put up this post but Im very upset!

NOT an honest company!!!!!!!!!!!!! This company does not great their customer in a right way. I made an appointment with this company, but they totally forgot. The bad thing is their charge is super high. Also lots of Biden charges in your bill. If you use this company, you must carefully check your bill to make sure they do not overcharge you. My parents, who live in Ann Arbor, have been customers of Hutzels for as long as Ive been on this earth. In addition to all the work theyve done for my parents - replaced the water heater and garbage disposals, repaired tub and showers- they recently added a ductless air conditioning unit to my grandparents house in Dexter. Whats cool about the most recent project is how nice they were to my gma. They came on time, they cleaned up, and they took the time to explain to her everything they did and how to work the ac. Hutzel is top notch.

We will NEVER use this company again. We needed someone to come look at our pump, which was still covered under the year warranty, because it wasnt working right. The man that came was so rude. He tried to accuse us of putting foreign objects into the toilet & made it VERY clear if he found anything it wouldnt be a warranty call. Of course, he didnt find anything (common sense to a group of adults that toilet paper is the only thing that should go in the toilet!). He was so unfriendly & to top it off he hit my car when backing out of our driveway! We will definitely find a new company for any plumbing needs in the future.

This place is a joke ( I called for warranty repair work ) I was told that it would be two weeks before a repair tech. I called American water heater back and got referred to another company. Irronically the very next day I got a call from hutzel plumbing wanted to come out within the hour. I never bothered to return the call

They came out for an estimate. The estimator was prompt and seemed knowledgeable.I waited about two weeks hoping to receive the estimate. When I didn’t, I called the estimator. He said he’d just been busy, had it on his desk and would get to it soon.I waited about three more weeks and nothing. I called, told whomever answered the phone about it. She transferred me to the estimator’s voicemail and I left a message.That was two weeks ago, and no response. It’s now been a total of two months and no estimate.It was difficult to get off work for the estimate and I’m disappointed they wasted my time.

I called Hutzel for a plumbing issue, they had to come out twice to fix a leak in our sewage stack in the basement. I was surprised when I got billed for 4 hours (2 people- 2 hours each) for the second visit when I know they took exactly an hour for the job (I checked when he called to say he was on his way and when I called my spouse to say they were done). I called them to check on the time charged and apparently it took a half hour for both of the plumbers to get ready for the job before and after? I was going to use the company for my furnace and air conditioner but not anymore.

I popped in to Hutzel at lunchtime to ask a plumbing question; Mike was super helpful, went way beyond my expectations which included making a few phone calls to verify a solution. These guys have helped me in the past with some tricky issues so I dont hesitate to recommend them.

Our technician was polite, knowledgeable, safe and fast! We have used them in the past for a water heater issue and the quality of service is still amazing. Highly recommend them

Wow...they charge 3 times the amount of what a normal Plumber charges...highway robbery...I called to negotiate the bill, the owner said yes we are a lot higher...they get paid more than lawyers...they showed up did the work, but it should have only cost $98.00 to install a garbage disposal...they charge $277.66. My central air system went out and I called Hutzel..they got me serviced on the same day during the peak season of 90° temperatures… I I met BJ who is a United States Veteran. He was professional, courteous, and friendly. He diagnosed the problem right away for my system and he did not try to upsell me on anything ! He explained to me what the problem was and what caused it, so I can work hard to prevent it from happening again. Additionally, He sprayed off my system, he checked my furnace filter and inspected my thermostat. I am grateful for him being a Veteran but also working for me and treating me in a respectful manner! Disappointing service. Purchased and had installed a new furnace at their recommendation. We then had to schedule 3 subsequent visits to correct their installation oversights which resulted in problems with our humidifier and air conditioner. Super inconvenient and time-consuming.

My condos hot water heater stopped working and Hutzel was very responsive, they came over that day, fixed it and they were professional and I was really pleased with their service. Would definitely recommend.

Just replaced a shower valve and charged over $900 and stated 4 hours work, but actually spent at least 1.5 hours outdoor phone in the vehicle. I reported it to his manager on the employee behaviors, and asked for $200 cut, but they kept the same billing.Never hire this plumber !

This company is not professional at all. They used low quality product, but charged me at very high price. Also need to check final bill very carefully because there was some hidden costs. Anyway I do not want to deal with company any more.

Very poor service. Rampart overcharging on labor hours. They billed us for two people when one just stood around or made personal calls. Extremely poor communication and repeated misses on getting permits pulled.
