BUYER BEWARE! We purchased a John Houston home in September 2021. We were excited to have a newly built home, but that excitement ended swiftly. We have ran into issue after issue. Our new AC stopped working during the summer due to poorly installed wiring, we had a cracked rafter, and now our flooring is lifting and cracking. The warranty department is a joke. Our neighbors have had issue after issue as well! I hope this helps future buyers realize what type of this company is. ZERO INTEGRITY!

I bought my John Houston Home in August of 2022 Brand New! Within in the 1st month I started noticing nail heads popping put all over the house no big deal I thought, just the house settling, the 1st cold snap hit that fall and the heater kept blowing the breaker, I called the 1 yrs warranty and they came fixed it come to find out the HVAC system was wired backwards to the panel and then again to the exterior panel. Not too long after that, the garbage disposal straight fell out of the sink while doing the dishes, and once again, I had to call the 1-year warranty. The fireplace was never built to use, its just mainly for looks, with the vent and chimney flue wide open the smoke comes right in the house. The sink drains in the bathroom have to be the tiniest they could buy, you spit in them and they clog. No to mention the faucets unscrew themselves and constantly have to be retightened. The tree in the front yard never was alive its now completely dead, the cabinet doors in the kitchen tend to just fall off at will. The masonry work is shotty at best as the back door brick work snapped off after the 1st year. The settling cracks are all through the house and Im wondering if the foundation is cracked. For a 459k dollar appraised house I royally got screwed.

My wife and I were in process of building a custom home when we saw one of John Houston‘s spec homes that was on a beautiful lot and happened to fit most of our needs. We contacted Rob, the sales manager for the community and he was able to help answer all the questions we had, including scheduling appointments with some contractors for improvements we wanted to make after closing. Bernie, the builder for our community, is an awesome guy who is a man of his word. It’s not so often that a builder keeps his word to make all of the repairs as promised in the buyer walk-through. Bernie gave us his word and delivered. On top of all that, we closed in 17 days, with a holiday day in there as well. If anybody from management is reading this, Rob and Bernie deserve a raise!

I would not recommend John Houston Homes to my worst enemy. The houses are built poorly, and warranty requests are never replied to in a quick manner, often sitting open for months and require owners to reach out and ask for updates for months on end. Customer service is awful at best. Dead trees were planted before move in, irrigation systems are not properly installed so yards flood, and inside house items are so poorly done that floors will chip just walking across them.I have been in my house for over a year now, and wish I never bought with John Houston. Please use extreme caution before buying a house with John Houston Homes or within this neighborhood.

We need a 0 star rating. My entire family was awoken at 5:00am, Tuesday 10.11.2022, to crews hammering frame & pouring concrete. My youngest child thought someone was breaking into his room. He was scared to death. The contractor did not have a permit to begin work that early in a residential neighborhood. I guess $100k in revenue is > $500 fine & how neighbors are affected. Total disregard for consideration and complete lack of respect. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.Edit: In response to your response - I had already called your office at the time of your response to my review. I went ahead and called the number you provided & was greeted by the same person I had already spoken with. As of 10:40am, same day, I am still awaiting a call from someone within your organization.

Well where do I start !! If I could give this folks less than a star ⭐️ I would ! I came here after looking at several builders and when I saw their model home the Atlanta I was in love . I spoke with the sales manager chivon and offered her what she needed to get approved for their homes . But where I’m pissed off and beyond disappointed was when I offered her to buy the model home at heyes crossing . I told her money was not an issue and that I would pay anything in order to buy it for my family . She replied that according to the HOA , the house would not be up for sale since they couldn’t build a model home . I was so sad and believed the lie . Let me explain why I call it a lie . When I closed on the house on the other corner of the modelHome they were building a house in the opposite corner / next to the model home . Well come to find out today that’s their new model home . So magically the hoa approved them to build a model home ? I’m a business owner and I work with a great deal of companies and people and seeing how this was fabricated so we could close on a house while knowing that the one we wanted would go up for sale 2 months later is not just a little messed up but a whole new way of messed up . I realize this folks are only in it for the money and not the pride to offer someone their dream home . Needless to say I had two friends who were going to buy from John Huston but I toldThem to go with Bloomfield homes . I myself can’t wait for my year to be up so I can sell this house and go with an honest company like Bloomfield . Completely lost my business and much moreAs I’m a well known personal trainer in Dallas and word of mouth will spread very fast about this outcome .

I was excited to purchase my John Houston home because they were referred and the Sales Person Patrick did a great job of making promises. The craftsmanship in building our home was certainly different from the model we based our decision on. We have been in our home now for one year and walls are starting to crack and separate. Three months in we had to have our a/c looked at (4) times because two rooms just remained hot. I had to deal with (5) builder superintendents and in the end they still didnt get it all right. Doorbell just stopped working (2) months ago. Our woods floors had had paint splattered on them and it took an act of God to get it cleaned up. Jason, was the most cavalier of them all and continued to be dishonest and never kept his word in making sure things he agreed to complete were completed. From the beginning, the sales person Patrick told me the contractors that were used by John Houston were better than the contractors used for Texas Homes and in the end, they were exactly the same. I am grateful for my home it would have been nice, not to have these issues with a new home. Heck even the yard never got fixed. The slope was correct however, the holes in the ground hidden beneath the grass could cause you break an ankle if youre not careful.

BEWARE before you purchase a home from this builder. J Houston homes has the worst post-close customer service we’ve ever experienced as a home owner. You will have problems during your build and once you close and continue to have issues, they will act concerned but will do little to nothing to help you. Once you’re past the warranty period, they will just state you’re warranty is past the period and will not help you despite all the times you’ve sought help DURING the warranty period. Talk to multiple current owners before you consider a home from them.

My experience with John Houston Custom Homes ......okay....I guess good not great like I thought it would be. The salesman Tony was awesome! no complaints there, it was more in the Design center and construction process. My expectations at first about JH homes was very high, I really thought they were high quality homes in construction and workmanship but not in everything after being in my new home for a month now. I payed a lot of money for my home and I think my home should of come with more upgrades and better workmanship and more quality work. First, I feel I should of gotten gutters with my home but gutters was considered an upgrade. My front and back yard has holes and dips every not even yard. We are having flushing issues, weak flush. Garage door squeaks and pops. Also garage door not painted correctly. In different areas of the house the paint looks horrible and on the floor trim I can see dry paint running down trim. Our bay window was shorter than model home, our laundry room was smaller than model home, there’s other things that my home didn’t mirror model home after requesting to mirror model home. It’s just how the quality of the way my house got painted is not quality or what I expected a JH custom home to be. The kitchen vent makes a lot of noise when the wind outside is blowing. Squeaky floors upstairs, noticeably repairs on door and we received a dusty home upon closing. Windows are difficult to lock. Another problem we experienced was in the design center that everything we wanted like upgrades was expensive and didn’t like the $500 extra fee for adding new upgrades after leaving the design center, felt like a penalty fee for not adding it before leaving the center. Another thing was the electrical appointment with Andy was horrible and stressful. The building process was stressful too. Now that I went through this wish I would of talked to other builders, seems they offer more for your money. Don’t get me wrong, I love my house but wish I could see more of the quality JH homes claims to have and do but and a better experience too.Don’t get me wrong it’s a good house but not the experience We went through.

I have purchased and enjoy a John Houston Home. The entire design to build process was excellent. The builders worked with me to choose the best lot for my needs and then kept a constant communication flow throughout the process. I am writing this review though about their fantastic service after the sale. Their warranty department was responsive and thorough the few times I have worked with them. Most recently I wanted to have JHH build an addition for me. Even though they do not do that kind of work, their employees such as Natalie and Deanne helped me to find resources outside of their organization to achieve my goal. With JHH you feel like they want to continue the connection after the sale to make sure that your needs are being met. A fantastic organization.

I’ve lived in my John Houston home for 15 months. They do build beautiful homes. The sales lady was great. There major problem is quality. My back porch and garage floor have excessive cracking that they won’t repair. My roof leaked. It was repaired. My AC would not hold temperature and it took service guys 4 trips to figure it out. This was after removing cabinets and cutting a hole in my wall to then realize leak was outside on unit.😡 It appears my ceramic tile was installed at or below freezing temperatures. The tile did not adhere to concrete making them sound “hollow”. To date 33 tiles have been replaced. One of my garage doors was installed wrong and had to be repaired. In the last 15 months, my wife and I have used 8 vacation days for these repairs. I hope John Houston implements a guality control plan to prevent a lot of this rework. That’s my two cents.

Our first home was purchased with John Houston and I can’t say enough positive things about our experience. We checked out a lot of the other home builders and decided to go with J Houston based on the kindness of everyone we encountered and the quality of the homes. For the (very fair) price we paid, we got an exceptional quality home built with custom finishes in a beautiful community. Tony Cummings and Jason Crow were both very patient with all my questions and walked me through the entire process, from the initial meeting with Tony to the final house walk-through with Jason. Tiffany Dennis at the design center was a joy to work with and SO patient. The woman knows her stuff. Matt Bassett and Kori at Trinity Oaks mortgage were also outstanding.I truly am so thankful for all the attention and care everyone demonstrated and have highly recommended J Houston to a lot of my friends and co-workers.

Ive pretty much had with John Houston and buyers should be wary of them. I regret using them to build my home. After I moved in, I noticed oil looking stains seeping through the paint in my master bedroom, master bathroom, and guest bathroom. To make matters worse, in the bathrooms during showers the oily looking stain would absorb the moisture from the humidity and I would have dark wet spots on my ceiling. I informed my construction manager that I may have a leak initially. He sent out a roofer and someone to check the AC/unit both said there were no leaks but looked at my ceiling, acknowledge there was something very wrong and stated bad drywall. I communicated this to the construction manager. The painter was sent out, and he also said bad drywall was installed. The painter had come out twice to apply Kilz and a stronger version of Kilz but the oily looking substance still seeped through. I was reassigned to a new warranty person because the first one, I was told, was no longer with the company. I explained all of this to him. I also had warranty tile work done in my laundry room and guest bathroom, part of which I was told would be completed prior to closing but wasnt, but it eventually got done. The problem with the tile work was that I was never told they would remove my guest bathroom toilet, the shoe mold, and wasnt aware that the floor boards would need to be repainted. There was no plan in place for that I couldnt use my washing machine, my dryer, and my toiled was in the bath tub for almost a week. In fact the person who initiated the tile work was no longer with the company by the time it was completed! I contacted John Houston and they put me contact with a new rep, Charles who acted motivated to complete the work. He came over scanned my home and told me the fixes were easy. Well apparently not because I still havent had the shoe mold replaced and my bathroom ceiling looks horrendous. All Charles did was ask the painter to come back and perform the same work he had already done twice. I questioned Charles about this informing him that it didnt work the first two times and he told me that the painter was sure it would work this time. Well Charles and John Houston IT DIDNT WORK just like I told you it wouldnt and John Houston has officially made my bathroom worse than it was previously. Its a true eye sore and an embarrassment. Ive shown these photos to my coworkers so they know better and will not choose this builder. I feel it is my duty to share this with the general public. The model home may look nice but youre in for a headache. Ive been dealing with the ceiling issue for 7 months now with no resolution. So buyer beware!

Extremely disappointed. I’ve owned my JH home for 2.5 years and have had some major issues. Had a large roof leak that leaked into a bedroom, and to their credit they did fix that within a week. But we’ve had multiple structural issues with the house, including a large wooden support beam for the awning on the front of the house that split all the way through a little after a year. They refused to fix it and would never even tell me if their was a fix. Now the mortar between the bricks on my house is flaking off like chalk along an entire wall, I am guessing because the mortar was not mixed properly. John Houston has refused to look at it as structural and have left me high and dry. Furthermore, we’ve had a huge portion of our crown molding crack, split, or fall of completely because of their shoddy craftsmanship. I am looking to move out of this home as soon as I can after I get it fixed. PLEASE DO NOT BUY JOHN HOUSTON HOMES!!! They are poorly constructed, built on the cheap, and company will not accept any responsibility for it.

We moved to Texas a couple of years ago and visited many builders in the DFW metroplex, from total custom builders to production builders. My wife works in South Dallas and I work in North Fort Worth so we were all over the map looking for perfection. I would say what sold us on John Houston Homes was exceptional service. From the beginning to the end of the process we were treated with professionalism and respect. When we first went into the John Houston model in South Point not only were we impressed by their quality but the sales ladies (Lee, Kati and Thao) were a pleasure to deal with. From the contract to customizing our floor plan to the many, many, many changes we made, they were helpful and honest. They never tried selling us what we didnt want and were gracious and helpful in resolving any issue that we encountered. The builders (Jeff and Gene) were fantastic to work with and were very patient with any changes or complaints we presented, they always worked everything out to our satisfaction. Brittney at the design center and Brittany at the mortgage company were essential to a smooth home building/buying experience. If I have any complaint at all it is that there are not enough pluming fixture choices at the design center. This John Houston team was better than great, better than excellent, they work hard to earn being exceptional.

Let me just start off by saying that we love our house. However, after living in it for a while, we have come across some pretty poor quality. The main issue is that initially our door to the laundry room was not latching properly. We had them come out to fix it at the end of our warranty, and the door worked properly for about a month. After that the door began to stick slightly, and we assumed it was just the house continuing to settle slightly. Now the door is pretty much falling out of the frame. After reaching out to John Houston, about the warranty work possibly being performed incorrectly, they basically told us tough love due to it being outside of the 1 year warranty period. My advice would be to watch them like a hawk! We caught the builder more than once cutting corners during the build and after.

We started off with confidence in JHH and our trust was betrayed. During building process the home was filthy, and each time we requested poor workmanship corrected we were assured by superintendent that all the issues would be taken care of. The week before closing date we had our walk through with the superintendent and noted all the issues that had never been completed would be done. After closing on home we went directly to our new home, only to find that very little had been done, and the home was not move in ready. The superintendent made excuses and promised to get them all done promptly. The superintendent continued with all talk and few items originally noted corrected. At that point we went over the head of superintendent. From that point on the work was completed. Total time from closing was 4 1/2 months to get original items noted completed. The week before our one year home warranty was up JHH refused the few items we had requested done while warranty was in place. During the one year of battling and loosing, the enjoyment of a new home was lost.JHH had explained when we signed the contract for home that arbitration was the way any disputes would be resolved and the process was quite simple with both parties sitting down to settle any issues. Sadly when we asked for arbitration JHH said there was no process for arbitration and for us to hire an attorney. I am hoping this will get the attention of JHH to step up and be responsible for their lack of concern. It is a horrible feeling to experience indifference and excuses from a builder we put our trust in.Update 5-6-19 Builder responded to BBB complaint filed by us and denied any responsibility based on the fine print of their builder sided contract required by all buyers to sign. I fail to understand why integrity is easily given up for convenience to make a few extra dollars. After this review John Houston Homes posted saying they were ready to help with new warrantable issues. The point of our review was to get the attention of JHH to step up and compensate for the 5 months of waiting after we closed and owned the home. The work they promised to finish after closing in a timely manner was over 5 months later. Shame on them for taking the short cut on integrity.Update 9-21-19 Ive tried to understand why the tract sales manager, the tract superintendent, the director of construction and the vice president of construction allowed our home build to be the disaster it turned out to be. They all placed making the most money possible for the builder and for themselves. The buyer in our case had no one to look out for us.We received no help, no apology or compensation for the months of work uncompleted after the purchase and close of our home. Until someone is not being paid to get homes slapped up quickly, the problems will continue. Is there anyone at JHH honest enough to step up and meet with us to negotiate a settlement??

So generally the construction process was what you would expect but the warranty service has been abisimal. After we had been in the home for about 6 months we filed a warranty claim for a series of usual issues from new home construction (window improperly installed, some trim work falling off or incomplete, issues with an exterior faucet, nail pops, etc). That was over a year ago and the only thing that’s been addressed are the window that leaked and the nail pops (took almost 7 months to get those resolved). The warranty guy goes dark for months at a time and then when he says we will have the various contractors come out the take care of items on the list they get rescheduled and nothing happens. Well I baught my very first home from J Houston in 2014. Well that one sold in 2018, as of 2019 I am getting my second Jhouston home built. They are one of the best builders in the DFW area with affordable homes that look amazing.

Just closed on our house last week and have a few small issues we noticed and reported within a day or so of closing, 1 of them the afternoon of closing. 2 of the issues are pre close fixes that were not done right. Nobody answers the phone, responds to emails or text messages... I have done all every day. Beware that once they get your money they are done with you. Im guessing the warranty that they spend 20 minutes going over isnt worth anything as they will simply ignore you for any and every warranty request... For a claimed Christian home builder they sure dont seem to have an ounce of integrity, but who am I to judge that. I also see they have turned off the ability to review them on Facebook...probably due to a lot of bad reviews that seem to read just like mine...EDIT on 26 August 2020... I promised the lady from JHH that kicked things into gear that I would update my review once everything was taken care of.Everything that was an issue with the house is finally taken care of, 2.5 months later. I cant blame JHH directly for some of these delays as they were mostly caused by their vendors, namely Builders First Source...whose process for things seems broken, as well as basically non existent communication...but again, I cant and wont blame JHH directly for that. I believe they were as frustrated with that vendor as I was.But JHH stepped up and took care of the 5 issues we had. 4 were relatively minor and 1 was major. The complete lack of communication was also rectified, although I believe it was only fixed because of my initial review and catching the attention of the higher ups in the company. So, at the end of the day I am happy with the outcome, but I am also sad that it took me writing my initial review to get somebodys attention and get things moving... I dont feel that it should have taken that and the higher ups at JHH that I met with did not feel that it should have taken that either. So definitely something to keep an eye on during your build process with JHH as I feel that was about the only negative, but it was a big negative.

Amazing - Professional Customer Service from beginning to end. The journey for my husband and I on our home building experience was eventful. We were truly blessed to have worked with a wonderful and caring John Houston Team: Krystal Maretic, Randy Harrelson, Bobby Lavender, Jennifer Massy and Andy Maier. There was never a time our questions or concerns went unanswered and we are so grateful for that - the wealth of information shared and the experience will forever be cherished. Richard & Bertha O.

Buying experience was great. Service/Warranties was fair to poor-several issues were not operational upon move in (dishwasher, water heater, faulty hose bibs outside and irrigation leak). Still waiting on repairs.

They do not honor their promises. Refuse to replace backyard grass as promised. They said they would do so after the loan closed, but had to lay it down to get the inspection to close. Hugh backyard is unsafe and dangerous to walk or play in - an injury is just waiting to happen. Very disappointed in this Christian business. Very disappointed and will not recommend until they honor their promises.

There were a few misunderstandings with underwriting and closing process but over all, the Christian atmosphere along with the willingness of most to go beyond whats required in order to make you feel special was unbelievable. I would recommend John Houston homes to anyone.

Thankful for the great experience when our family purchased our home. Great quality and have had only one issue in five years. My family is looking forward to our next purchase as we get ready to downsize due to our kids being in college.

Did Not REGISTER heat pump with manufacture supposed to be 10 years warranty & will not stand behind their contract. I’m screwed because the manufacture kicks it back & JHouston homes won’t help. Now whose responsibility was it to register this ????

This house has been a nightmare. From snapped roof beams, switches to no where and an $1,100 Ac repair and the house is three years old. They are a low quality, track home builder. Look elsewhere to buy your home.
