Highland is a mixed bag… you don’t know what you’ll get. The first time I called Matt was in 2016 before I bought my house. The experience was great: he was responsive, did a thorough job, and report provided. Fast forward to January 2023 when he came back out to the same house…. It’s been a year and a half and I still have not received my report after his visit on 1/4/23. He totally fell off the planet and never responded to my emails or calls for the report. Eventually I gave up. Fast forward to July 2024. I attempt again and actually get a text and a call back from Matt. I requested my report from Jan 2023. He said I’ll have it by that evening. Not surprised to say I never received it and he has ghosted me again with no replies to my texts and calls. I must assume he never did one after his visit. Just pick another company, I’ll never call him again.

**DO NOT HIRE**We had Matt Monroe come out to evaluate the foundation of a home were purchasing. Sept. 2023I made the mistake to pay Matt prior to him sending over the report, he said that he would send over for the needed foundation repairs.Several promises by Matt, but still nothing.

They were able to come out extremely quickly after making the call and did a fantastic job. The reports were easy to understand and extremely thorough. Matt was kind enough to answer all the questions I had and made sure I felt really comfortable and informed.By far the best experience Ive ever had with an inspection. I would absolutely recommend this firm to anyone who needs inspection/structural assessments!

We’ve been very pleased with Highland Engineering, as this is our second time to use them.Matt, the owner, came to our home today to do a follow up inspection.He was extremely kind, courteous, very informative, patient and professional.On his own, he even took his shoes off at the front door before entering! 😊He put our minds at ease about some issues that we needed to address with our home and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him or anyone from his firm.Splendid transaction.

Had Matt M. come out to evaluate a new home I purchased, he did a walk through with me which was fine but never gave a report or summary for me to show my contractor. Called countless times and even asked for a refund if he wouldn’t give a report for my contractor to begin work. Still no response. Held up the construction on my home. Won’t use again. Would not recommend.

I can honestly say I have never been more disappointed in a professional engineer. I spoke with the principle, Matt Monroe, and he told me they wanted to bid a project for me. When I called back to follow up on the bid, he informed me that there was a mistake and his draftsman had misunderstood and had actually already designed 90% of the project for me! The price he quoted me over the phone sounded good so I told him thats great, lets move forward with the design. I have been asking to review the design for over 3 weeks now and have talked to Matt multiple times on the phone and over text message. He has set up multiple appointments for a conference call to review plans and then just doesnt call or answer when I call him. He now will not even answer the phone, call back or respond to text messages so I am going to hire another firm.

Highland responded exceptionally fast to my inquiry. The appointment was thorough and extremely enlightening as to the condition of my residences foundation. Highlands report allowed me to bid out my foundation repair to the various companies with the knowledge and opinion of a professional engineer. It is important to not rely solely on the opinions of the various salespeople who evaluated my situation. He revealed issues that the foundation repair salespeople missed. Highly recommend.

I found this company using Yelp. I have sinking foundation and cracks in the exterior and interior of my house. I needed a professional assessment of my foundation in order to know how to fix it. Highland was highly recommended on yelp so I went with them based on their reviews.I have a graduate degree in Construction Science and Minor in Architecture, so im not unfamiliar with foundations, and construction and issues with houses, but by no means an expert engineer nor a foundation expert. But I do have extensive experience with contractors, engineers, and home builders.I was thoroughly impressed with this company and their professionalism from the very start. They are clean cut, professional, and organized. They are responsive to customers needs, and thoughtful and knowledgeable to all questions that I had. They do a thorough job, and would highly recommend them for any service that they provide (especially foundation inspections). They put together a great plan for my house to install piers, and worked with me extensively on issues and questions throughout the process. 5 stars.Matt (the owner) personally visited my house multiple times to review issues as they came up during this process showing a dedication to his company and his customers that you rarely see in this business. Which is why I chose to write a review (which I never do).Thanks guys!

We have some structural issue in the attic. Matt provided us with detailed blue prints to remedy the situation. When I mentioned we struggle to find someone we can trust to do the remodel/repair. He also recommend a company which provided us with reasonable estimate. Matt followed up at times to make sure things are progressing smoothly and that we didnt have further questions.

We were very pleased with the prompt response and excellent service from Highland. We had a need to have a home inspection and a structure engineering report done very quickly before a holiday weekend and Highland delivered for us, even faster than we had anticipated. We were pleased with their pricing as well. We met with the inspector and he explained things to us in easy-to-understand and reasonable terms. Very personable manner. We highly recommend using them!

Highland engineering has assisted me with assessing three foundations for possible investor properties in the last 2 weeks. Two of the properties had slab foundations while the other was pier and beam. With the slab foundations, Matt helped me realize that I was underestimating the cost to repair the foundation. I decided to pass on that property based on its current price. On the other slab foundation, a short sale, we reviewed the foundation bid and assessment provided by the lender. After visiting the property together and developing a plan to fix the foundation, it gave me the confidence that I would be able to purchase this property, fix the foundation properly, and profit after remodeling the home. Finally with the pier and beam foundation, I had received a bid from a foundation repair company for $6k after they went into the crawlspace. I shared this information with Matt, and we decided to visit the property together to make sense of their proposal. Matt and I went into the crawlspace, and he explained to me what exactly needed to be done (and more importantly what wouldnt need to be done). The $6k bid will now only be ~$1.5k, and Matt will be directing the foundation company what they will be repairing. In case this, the repair wasnt as daunting as initially presented in a previous general inspection report or by the foundation company. Going forward this foundation company will be less likely to throw out a large foundation bid at me since they know that Matt will be verifying their plan. I look forward to working with Highland in the future to profit from properties with foundation repairs and avoid costly mistakes from not properly assessing the condition of a homes foundation. Foundation contractors benefit from real estate investors knowing less about foundations than they do. By working with Matt on investment opportunities, I expect to get more accurate bids from contractors and a plan of action that will properly restore a propertys foundation. I genuinely appreciate the time that youve spent educating me about foundations, your flexibility in visiting properties on a Saturday morning at 8am, and your expertise.

Potential buyer requested an engineer report for our home that we are selling. By some miracle I explained that my option period was ending soon and I needed it inspected ASAP. Laura was very accommodating and got Patrick out to my house the same day. They have both gone above and beyond to get us through the option period. I am very thankful to them. Best of all no repairs were recommended!!

This company is fantastic. My realtor knew we were on a time crunch to close and they reached out to this company for a quote and timeline. Patrick and his team were immediately responsive and available. The report was thorough and provided a wealth of information which assisted us as well as our lender. When our lender required some additional work to be completed for approval, they were able to provide a supplemental report to show the lender the work which was recommended had been completed and didn’t charge us anything additional. I can’t say enough good words about this company. Fast, responsive, accurate and thoughtful. They aren’t the big corporations who only see a number, they are the ones who see you as a person. Highly recommend and will seek them out again when we buy or sell again.

We had a great experience with Matt and Highland Engineering. Matt was polite and courteous and most important was thorough and gave us confidence in the home we were in the process of purchasing. Definitely recommend.

Pleasure to work with. Thorough and accurate. Saved us from buying a complete disaster. Also recommended the best foundation repair company in Dallas. Additionally, by comparison to other companies does not break the bank at $450 a visit. Can’t rate Matt and his team high enough. If I ever need an engineer again this will be the company I call

Matt was supposed to show up for a reinspection of our foundation, then he ghosted me and stopped responding to calls and texts.

Matt is very responsive and will answer all your questions. I’d recommend getting the engineers report before doing any work. I’d highly recommend this company and I’d suggest to call them before the foundation Work and again once the work is done to get proper feedback. Thank you Matt.
